1  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / One tiny thing? on: March 07, 2010 03:59:46 AM
Hi!

It's been a while since I swapped, and I really miss it. I remember partaking in a One tiny thing-swap, and it seems like a good way to start up the swapping again!

Is there anyone still interested in a plain old One tiny thing swap?  Wink It would be cool to have a theme like flowers, plants or trees seeing at it's time to start your gardens just about now..
2  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Help to find a doily-ish vest pattern on: April 14, 2009 07:58:34 AM
I've been out for a while looking for a pattern for a crochet vest. The ones I've found are the wrong style and none of them appealed to me. I'm a pretty new at crocheting, so making my own pattern isn't really going to happen..

What I'm looking for is a short (waist, or just below the waist) vest. I don't want it to be solid crochet, rather lacy and doily-like. Or it can be solid with lacy details.

I drew a picture of the shape I'm looking for.

Do you know any patterns out there? Online or books; I'm OK with both. I just neeeeed this vest!!  Wink I appreciate all help..
3  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Benetton Handbag Knock-Off! on: August 23, 2007 05:37:22 AM

I saw this purse in an ad in Cosmo, and it looks pretty nice, no? The necklaces are really cool too... And the colors! Great for fall.

So how would one make a knock-off? I'm not so good with the different knitting techniques used...
Do you know any pages where different techniques are described?

Do you think the front is made in one piece or are the four pieces sewn (crocheted?) together?

I'm out of handbag-project right now, and I haven't really tried to make any knock-offs. Anyone in on making one of these with me?  Wink
4  FIBER ARTS / Dyeing: Completed Projects / Plant dyeing eco-silk! on: May 17, 2007 11:01:43 AM
So I'm doing this project in school, that I've been working on, with two friends, for a little less than a year about ecological fabrics. As part of the project we were going to sew COMPLETELY ecological clothing, and the only way to dye fabrics is to use plants, and tadaaah! Onions peals and birch leaves both have strong coloring, so that's what we used. The fabric we used was bought online from Nearsea Naturals in the US, and since we live in Sweden, we had to ship it by air. NOT GOOD!!! Getting sheep and weaving our own fabric was not really an option...

(We had to use silk since plant fibers are plants themselves, and don't get dyed by other plants...)

Anyhow; we did three baths: one with yellow onion peels, one with red onion peels, one with a combination of red and yellow, and one with birch leaves.

The first three turned out looking really alike, and the birch one didn't really catch any color...

(From top left: Yellow onions, red onions. Bottom left: Mix, birch.)

Here's the birch coloring in comparison to the original fabric. I'm thinking maybe we had too few leaves, or maybe they were too old.

I can't wait for fall the there are berries and beets to color with!

(I threw in some leftover yarn, and it picked up the color really well! I think wool is the best material to color with plants...)
5  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / What does "without nap" mean? on: April 03, 2007 10:54:28 AM
I found my mother's old Simplicity patterns, and decided to make a dress. In the cutting layouts it says something like: 35'', 36'' (90cm) without nap.

What does "without nap" mean?

Thanks! Cheesy
6  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Knit Socks DIY Kit-Swap? on: October 22, 2006 09:31:06 AM
I've seen swaps with this theme before, but never had the chance to participate. You would send a package to your partner with knitting needles, yarn and a pattern for socks (or anything else for that matter! Gloves, shawls etc.). You could also send along a music mix, candles and other things that are practical or just plain nice when you are knitting! I think this would make a good fall/winter swap!
Sound cool?
7  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Chai Tea Recipe? on: October 05, 2006 06:42:23 AM
I LOVE chai tea. I get it whenever I go to cafs and I spent the whole summer drinking chai lattes at Starbucks. Now, I really want to make it at home. I bought chai tea bags, but it doesn't get strong enough for my taste. I would probably need 4 of those teabags to make it strong enough. I want it to be hot as in spicy-hot.

Does anyone have any recipes for chai tea or any recommended lables??
8  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Fill-A-Pencilcase? on: September 05, 2006 11:15:39 AM
We've had Fill A Purse/Coin Purse etc.etc., so how about a pencilcase version? Now with school started again and all, I could really use a new pencilcase stuffed with pencils and pens!

Anyone intereseted??  Cheesy

I made this for a swap a few weeks ago:

Close-up of the zippered pocket I'm so very proud of Smiley

I love the lining fabric... It's kind of old and rips easily, but it's soooo pretty!

Thanks for looking!
