1  Help to find a doily-ish vest pattern in Crochet: Discussion and Questions by emapril on: April 14, 2009 07:58:34 AM
I've been out for a while looking for a pattern for a crochet vest. The ones I've found are the wrong style and none of them appealed to me. I'm a pretty new at crocheting, so making my own pattern isn't really going to happen..

What I'm looking for is a short (waist, or just below the waist) vest. I don't want it to be solid crochet, rather lacy and doily-like. Or it can be solid with lacy details.

I drew a picture of the shape I'm looking for.

Do you know any patterns out there? Online or books; I'm OK with both. I just neeeeed this vest!!  Wink I appreciate all help..

2  Benetton Handbag Knock-Off! in Knitting: Discussion and Questions by emapril on: August 23, 2007 05:37:22 AM

I saw this purse in an ad in Cosmo, and it looks pretty nice, no? The necklaces are really cool too... And the colors! Great for fall.

So how would one make a knock-off? I'm not so good with the different knitting techniques used...
Do you know any pages where different techniques are described?

Do you think the front is made in one piece or are the four pieces sewn (crocheted?) together?

I'm out of handbag-project right now, and I haven't really tried to make any knock-offs. Anyone in on making one of these with me?  Wink

3  Plant dyeing eco-silk! in Dyeing: Completed Projects by emapril on: May 17, 2007 11:01:43 AM
So I'm doing this project in school, that I've been working on, with two friends, for a little less than a year about ecological fabrics. As part of the project we were going to sew COMPLETELY ecological clothing, and the only way to dye fabrics is to use plants, and tadaaah! Onions peals and birch leaves both have strong coloring, so that's what we used. The fabric we used was bought online from Nearsea Naturals in the US, and since we live in Sweden, we had to ship it by air. NOT GOOD!!! Getting sheep and weaving our own fabric was not really an option...

(We had to use silk since plant fibers are plants themselves, and don't get dyed by other plants...)

Anyhow; we did three baths: one with yellow onion peels, one with red onion peels, one with a combination of red and yellow, and one with birch leaves.

The first three turned out looking really alike, and the birch one didn't really catch any color...

(From top left: Yellow onions, red onions. Bottom left: Mix, birch.)

Here's the birch coloring in comparison to the original fabric. I'm thinking maybe we had too few leaves, or maybe they were too old.

I can't wait for fall the there are berries and beets to color with!

(I threw in some leftover yarn, and it picked up the color really well! I think wool is the best material to color with plants...)

I received from jessicachantel a few days ago, and I finally found my camera. Smiley

She sent me a lot more than she had to! Here's the holder for crochet hooks:

She also sent me a pincushion:

She made a pair of Halloween-themed earrings, but unfortunately they broke in the mail...

Thank you so much, jessicachantel!!  Cheesy

And Tara1979, I'm glad you liked the origami paper!

I recieved from Vildhavre yesterday. I raced to the store to pick up the package when I got their note... I LOVE IT ALL! Cheesy Thank you so much, Vildhavre! It was almost like Christmas when I opened it.

A pouch with my guilty pleasure crush's (Pete Doherty) face on it, a purse with my fictional crush's (Sirius Black) face on it, and a knitting needle holder with "Wands" and a phoenix feather embroidered on it.

I told Vildhavre that I've been thinking of learning to spin my own yarn, so she sent me a spindle and roving! The yarn I made so far mostly looks like lumpy animal poop...

Thanks! I think I might love you, Vildhavre...  Cheesy

I recieved from yamwam the day before yesterday. Tadaa:

The pink is not as pale as it looks... My camera has a horrible flash.

I wore the earrings to and from work (no big earrings in my workplace...) and they jingle so nice.. Cheesy

Thank you, yamwam!
