1  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / Princess butterfly superhero on: January 22, 2012 06:57:22 PM
Good evening!

My daughter created a superhero persona called Beautiful Butterfly. She asked me to help her create her superhero costume, so here it is. This is the first dress I have ever made, and I did it without a pattern. I am surprised it turned out this well. She is thrilled with it!

2  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Fabric types for pants on: January 19, 2012 03:59:57 PM
Hello friends,

I kind of came in to this sewing thing a little backwards. I tend to just find clothes, deconstruct them and then teach myself how to make them from what I see. As such, I have zero understanding of types of fabrics and what is good for what projects. I have mostly just been going to the fabric store and picking based on feel and look.

I have just learned to make pants. I am looking for materials for these pants. The pants need fabric that is heavier than the standard cotton stuff you get at a place like Jo-Ann's. I have used some corduroy with really thin wales, and that turned out really well.

These are the pants I have made with corduroy.

I want fabric that is soft enough to flow around a little, but not super thick or thin.

Please help. What should I be looking for?

Thanks in advance.
3  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Wrap pants on: January 12, 2012 03:39:52 PM
Wrap pants, my first love. It was through doing these that I learned to sew. 3 yards of fabric, not super difficult, but lots of fun to wear.

Hello all -

First post!

I have been making pocket belts. I have officially mastered at least beginning serging, and am quite happy with the results. These are made from various types of fabrics, and are usually backed with upholstery fabric so they are super sturdy.
