1  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / How to create printables? on: October 07, 2010 07:52:16 AM
I realize this question may be ... remedial, at best.

I want to create some printables to distribute on my blog and in my etsy shop. The easy ones that are just straight images, I can handle. But I get stuck when I want to combine, say, a vintage image with an illustrated border. Or if I want to take one of my own drawings and turn it into a printable - but it needs cleaning up/a more illustrated look?

Photoshop isn't quite cutting it for formatting things like that - do I need to switch to Illustrator? (And if so, can you recommend any good Illustrator tutorials?)

What about using a tablet/pen - is that the way to go?

How do YOU go about creating printables?

Thank you so much for your help!!!
2  GLASS CRAFTS / Glass Crafts: Discussion and Questions / stained glass mosaic adhesive? on: July 08, 2010 06:26:44 AM
i've got the mosaic part down, the stained glass part down, the grout part down - but this will be my first time using some translucent glass in my work AND my first time doing a backsplash (over the stove and countertops). most of the glass is opaque, but about a third of it has clear streaks. so i don't *really* want to use the tile adhesives i've used in the past. i'd like something clear and quick drying -- and it has to be cost effective, because i have about 15 sq. feet to cover. eek.

i've heard that weldbond is good, and someone else recommended clear liquid nails, but i really want to make sure i get the right thing - and i figure if anyone could help me, the craftster comm could!

thanks in advance for all your advice/suggestions!
3  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Scrapbooking: Discussion and Questions / Die cutting + embossing? on: June 21, 2010 07:39:02 AM
I've read the threads here about the die cutting machines, and it sounds like the cuttlebug would work for me for that purpose.... but i'd also like to be able to do embossing -- so the wizard seems okay for that?

What out there does both, and is a good product, AND takes dies/tools from many different manufacturers? (and isn't $500)

bonus points if it will emboss on a bunch of different materials!
4  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Cardboard? on: June 02, 2010 07:03:10 AM
I have a garage full of cardboard boxes - with no recycling facilities around here. I am thinking of maybe trying my hand at cardboard furniture, but am having trouble finding good tutorials - the one i found at instructables just doesn't seem to make much sense to me.

has anyone made furniture from cardboard?

beyond that, what *else* can i do with all these boxes??
5  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Introduce Yourself / hello! on: June 02, 2010 06:43:25 AM
hi, all!

i guess this is my official de-lurking. i've been here before, as an active member, then went away for awhile, then came back, on tiptoes. now i'm de-lurking because i'm finally ready to participate (read: all of my supplies have been unpacked from the boxes they've been in for 2 years while i lived in a weird limbo).

i am a serious dabbler. i knit (when my wrists permit), crochet, bead, mosaic, assemblage/collage art, do atcs, looooooove to swap... anything i can get my hands into, i will, pretty much.

what i don't dabble in, but rather seriously pursue, is photograpy. i've been doing photo 365 this year (my blog is http://tiltandshift.wordpress.com) and am finally working towards putting my work out there for real, after being waylaid by a career in corporate writing.

currently i am: 1) working on my painting skills. i am not great with shading and perspective, but have images in my head that want to come out, so i am trying to compromise. 2) refurbishing an old china hutch i got for free (i'll post pics when it's all done!) 3) plotting the mosaic/stained glass backsplash for my kitchen.

i've already learned so much just by lurking, and i can't wait to join in and share my projects, get inspiration for new ones and meet people i know i'll adore!
