1  **My Black Skirt** in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by Pink_Dinosaur on: April 13, 2006 12:19:45 AM
So I was at Walmart the other day looking for some simple black fabric to make a skirt to wear to an interview I had last Monday. Going through the fabrics, I found this lightweight cotton in black and in brown that was only $1/yard. I also found a pink plaid-type print. The best part is this one was on clearance .50/yard. I got like 4 yards of each fabric. I also picked up two patterns that I wanted to try, one was $2, the other was way more $13. When I got home i realized She only charged me for 1 pattern, the cheaper one! I really did come home with some good deals.

Anyways, on to the skirt. I made this trying to make it kind of like an A-line skirt. I had no idea how to make it so I kinda just cut out what i thought it should look like. I made a waist band. Then cut out the skirt shape I wanted, and attached the two. I really like how the sides are a bit longer, it makes it hang nicely. I am rather pleased with it Smiley
It took me only like 45 min altogether, with my sister screaming at me to go to bed already since it was 11:30pm.  Now on to the pictures, let me know what you think

Here's the 1st pic I took in the mirror before I decided to try the self timer:

The whole outfit I wore:

The skirt itself:

Side views:
(it looks longer in the 1st picture, but its really knee legnth)

Close up of fabric:

As you can tell the fabric is a bit see through so I made the skirt two layers and I wore black spandex shorts underneath just in case.
I also liked how it looked without the edges hemed.

thanks for looking!

This is the first piece of clothing I made. The fabric I was a bedsheet I found at the thrift store for $2.00.
It only took me 2 hours to make working on and off. Let me know what you think Smiley thanks

thanks for looking!  Cheesy

TUTORIAL
Here is a basic tutorial on how to cut out the skirt. I hope everything is clear. let me know if I need to explain a bit more.
Two tips I have for you:
  • Try this out on muslin or other inexpensive fabric to make sure your layout and calculations are correct before you cut your fabric
  • Once you have the dimensions worked out, make a paper pattern that you can use in the future so you don't have to recalculate every time.

if you are still having trouble check out this site:
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/crispin.roche/circular.htm
Just plug in your length, your waist size, and the size of fabric you are using and it calculates everything for you and provides an image as guidance.

4  Ravioli in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by Pink_Dinosaur on: March 19, 2006 12:04:32 AM
I made this for my boyfriend for valentine's day. Me and him always share ravioli when we have italian. It's his favorite food. I wanted to avoid buying him little plushies like I usually do cause they just end up in his closet in a box.  Roll Eyes  This one he keeps on his bed, which tells me he actually likes it  Cheesy

It's just 2 pieces of tan felt. One piece of red for the sauce and black felt for a mouth. I love googly eyes, plus it saved the time of trying to make and sew a pair on there. It only took my about an hour all together. What do you think??

5  Help with this dress in Clothing: Discussion and Questions by Pink_Dinosaur on: February 23, 2006 09:57:34 AM
My dad is having a party this saturday for his 60th birthday. I chose my dress which I saw in Cosmo Girl:
http://www.rubyrox.com/presspreview.php?cover=Y29zbW8yMDA1c2VwdGNvdmVyLmpwZw==&dress1=Y29zbW8yMDA1c2VwdGRyZXNzLmpwZw==&url=aHR0cDovL3d3dy5kaWxsYXJkcy5jb20vd2ViYXBwL3djcy9zdG9yZXMvc2VydmxldC9Qcm9kdWN0RGlzcGxheT9jYXRhbG9nSWQ9MzAxJmxhbmdJZD0tMSZzdG9yZUlkPTMwMSZwcm9kdWN0SWQ9NTAwNzcyMTY3Jk50az1hbGwmTnR5PTEmTnR0PWpkLTIzMCZSPUpELTIzMA==

Its kinda hard to to see the dress in the picture so I took some pics of the dress at home:
(the dress is black with glitter in it)

Here's my question:
This party is going to be outdoors so it's going to get cold. I was thinking of knitting a wrap (http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=81349.msg764775#msg764775)
like this one: http://www.berroco.com/231/231_dagmar_pv.html but in black.

or should i buy some fabric and stitch one up? it would be faster since the party is this saturday. but i dont really know what fabric to use or how to make one.

also do you think if i made one (knitted or stitched) that i should make it black or is that too dark. i dont plan on wearing it with black tights like the girl did, although maybe i should cause it would keep me warm. what do you think?
I'm really clueless when it comes to fashion so i don't know what goes togther. my solution is everything in black, that way it matches. I dont know what shoes to wear either. I'd really love to hear anyones opinion on this. thanks
