11  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Stenciling: Completed Projects / stencil happy: kodama, army men... and jersey on: August 07, 2009 07:37:33 PM
my stepdaughter moved to TX for the next year to live with her mom. i started getting into stencilling shirts again and i found 3 shirts on clearance at target ($2.50 each) and decided to make her some:

she is a huge miyazaki fan and loves all his films. i found this stencil of the kodama from princess mononoke and it made a cute shirt...

she has a thing for small plastic army men... and when i found this stencil i knew i had to do this. the paint is a lavender. my flash was highly uncooperative today.

and of course... we're from jersey so... i HAD to do this.  she probably won't wear it, but i love it.

i wanted to do more, but wasn't happy with the other color shirts i found so she'll have to wait... although at some point, a totoro shirt will be done!
12  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Stenciling: Completed Projects / michael jackson stencil on: July 31, 2009 03:56:43 AM
my son, since michael jackson has passed away, has been... very obsessed with him. he loves his music and is writing a comic that has michael as a guardian angel....

so i was sitting here two nights ago thinking, "well, if he likes him, maybe he needs a shirt!"  so i went on the hunt for michael jackson stencils. i found http://spraypaintstencils.com/michael-jackson-stencils.htm these, which is actually where i got my stencil from.

it took... too long to cut it out, but it looks awesome i think.  i seriously don't think i'd cut another stencil this detailed though lol

13  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / bias tape and stretchy fabric on: June 03, 2009 01:49:17 PM
i made my daughter a dress for graduation out of a stretchy material and put bias tape across the top.  it looks beautiful, but as she puts it on and takes it off, the tape starts to look distorted.  is there a way to fix this?

(btw- the straps look crooked i realize afterwards. she put it on crooked when i took that picture LOL)

but here is the problem:

see how it stretches out?  is there a good way to fix that?

thanks! Huh
14  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / foam for cushions on: March 05, 2009 06:14:57 PM
since i haven't seen it anywhere, at least not that i've noticed... where would you buy thick foam padding to make a cushion from.. like for a bench?  does joanns or michaels have it maybe?  i have this thick wooden coffee table we're going to make into a bench, but it needs a cushion.

thanks!
15  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / tote bag for a charity auction on: March 05, 2009 11:08:25 AM
my mother in law recently emailed me. her work is having a charity auction. all items should be homemade so she asked me if i might want to make something... i decided to put together a totebag/purse. it's rather simple. i didn't want to try anything majorly fancy and mess it up! i love how bright these fabrics are and with spring coming, hopefully it'll do well for them.

16  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / grab bag, tissue pack, tea wallet, and a cup holder on: February 24, 2009 02:37:24 PM
i was a little busy today....

i'm not 100% happy with this, as the straps were harder than i thought. i followed the this http://www.allpeoplequilt.com/quarterlychallenge/APQ_QtrlyChal3.pdf  but i do love the striped fabric, and the pink went well, ithought.

before that, though, i made a tea wallet, which was my first. i love the fabric. they were just fat quarters from joanns.

and then there was the tissue package. i love how this turned out because i didn't mean to make the fabric line up... BUT IT DID! YAY!

and now... i didn't follow anything, i just made this up how i thought it'd work.

this was my day... aside from baking a cake for our church dinner tonight.
17  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Valentine's Day / another 52 reasons... plus an extra! on: February 11, 2009 09:39:46 AM
i absolutely fell in love with the idea of the 52 reasons book out of a deck of cards. i decided that, though it's not original, it was a cute idea and i figured my husband of 10 1/2 yrs might like to hear these things.  so i put together my own book.. i'm posting a pic of the cover, and a pic of 1 page that i found the funniest.  each page is different color and font.

here is the special part of it. since i figured i'd make it like his "card", i made an envelope to go with it.

18  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / some other totes i've made on: February 10, 2009 11:37:17 AM
my stepdaughters mom bought 6 yds of fabric online. she bought the wrong stuff and waited too long to return it so gave it to me.  i made several bags out of it and still have tons!

this i made for my stepdaughter for her art class. she can hold her sketchbooks and all her pencils and accessories.

her mom saw the one i made for her and wanted on for herself. i decided to use the same materials and change the design.

i actually fell in love with the combonation of colors and made this for myself. it's perfect to carry my bible and other items to church, or to use as a purse.

19  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / a hobo bag and yet 2 more zippered pouches! on: February 10, 2009 10:28:46 AM
i finally got around to making the hobo bag i wanted to make http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=125025.0. i'm not 100% happy with it, only because my straps are a little wonky. i think when i got towards the body, it slipped and they go a little uneven. and i'm still not 100% sure i like the yellow lining, but it's ok.

and the following two are my favorite zipper pouches i've made. i love the blue one and i love the buttons on it.  the white one(and the lining) is made from two fabric napkins i got at target.

20  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / another zippered pouch-in lucky cat!, and a backpack revamp on: February 07, 2009 05:56:42 PM
so i've been busy again. it's nice to have time!

when my daughter saw the zipper pouch i made, she gave me some pieces from a hoodie she took apart to do a revamp with (she's going to sew stripes on another shirt, i'll post pics when she's done), and asked me to make one.

it's a little off, because the material is stretchy, but it's cute. she picked out a good lining, too.

the other thing i did was take this drawstring backpack i made her 2 yrs ago http://www.maxthedork.com/jellybellygirl/sewing/katiebag1.jpg and turned it into a sleeve for her colored pencils for art class.

and yes, we kept the pocky pocket... however off centered i made it lol
