I use Bob's Red Mill 10 Grain Cereal mix and whole wheat flour instead of regular all purpose, and I add Craisins in addition to the apple and carrot. The grains stay a little crunchy, but all the fruit makes them really moist. I've been having them for breakfast all week this week, actually.
You make it look so easy! I think I have my last gift for my mother-in-law figured out now. Thanks for posting such a great, well-written tutorial. (Oh, and I'll probably make a few for myself, too, and maybe my own mother, and sister . . . and anyone else I can think of.)
Wow, somebody's been digging through the crochet threads. Two years since the last replies until November '08.
There's a basic description of how you make the links at the bottom of page 2. I can't locate the little book where I wrote down the actual pattern, but I'd guess I started with a ch 8, join to form loop, then worked 16 dc into that loop.
You don't want to increase on every stitch or you'll end up with a big ruffly flat thing instead of a hat. I'd look up a basic crochet hat pattern to get an idea of how to work the increases, then work one row even in between each increase row.
If I remember from the few hats I've made, you increase the same number of stitches in each row evenly spaced until you get to the size you want. In the example given above, you increase 6 st for each increase row, so the next increase row would be sc, 2 sc in next stitch, repeat to get 18 stitches and so on.
I'd also recommend staggering the increases so you get a rounder shape. Putting them in the same spot in each row tends to make more of a hexagon--at least it does for me
Oops, haven't been checking on the replies to your posts lately. The only real alternative to a food processor would be a blender, but I don't know that you'd have access to one of those, either. You could try dicind the peppers as small as possible and then whisk everything together. It wouldn't come out as smooth, but it should still taste the same.
I just made a really good dip/spread this evening. I based it on a recipe I made before but I couldn't find it again, so I went by memory and winged it a little. So, in a mostly self-serving move I'm posting it here so I can always find it. And so all you other lovely people can try it if you're so inclined.
12-oz block lite soft silken tofu, drained (wrap in clean tea towel and squeeze as much liquid as you can from it) 4 oz 1/3-less-fat cream cheese 1/2 of a 7-oz jar of roasted red peppers, roughly chopped a tsp or so of fresh basil leaves scant tsp chopped dried onions 1/2 tsp garlic powder 3/4 tsp kosher salt 1 tsp sugar dash ground ginger (1/8-1/4 tsp maybe) 1/2 to 1 tsp or so lime juice
Toss it all in your food processor (or blender) and process until smooth. Refrigerate for a couple hours to let the flavors mingle, exchange phone numbers, etc. So far I've had it with wheat thins type crackers and baby carrots, but tortilla chips, pita bread, other veggies would be good with it, too.
I didn't measure anything, so they're all approximations. You can adjust it all to taste.
And now to hit post so I don't lose this recipe like the last one . . . (this one came out better than the one I lost, anyway, so it wasn't all bad)
I finally made a sale in 2007! Only took nearly 3 full months. And this was a custom order that the buyer originally contacted me about back in Dec.
I was too busy making xmas gifts back then, and the fact that I haven't had a sale since Oct before today hasn't kept me in a very crafty mood. Hence the fact that I haven't listed anything since Nov. The evil, self-perpetuating cycle: I haven't sold anything because I haven't listed anything. I haven't listed anything because I haven't made anything. I haven't made anything because I haven't sold anything.
I still like to follow along this thread, though. I keep hoping maybe some motivation from you all will jump out and get me moving . . .
Actually, I have a listing that's supposed to expire today and it's still there. I listed it in Aug, so this is the 7 month (old 6 mo. expiration date plus the xmas bonus month), so it might not just be you. Every other time items have expired, they've been gone on the day of expiry, not through to the end of it. Unless it's a new policy to give you the full day. I guess I'll have to see what's up with it tomorrow.
ETA: Well, it's "tomorrow" and the item is still there. Not that I'm going to complain or anything. . . Also, not that it's likely to help much, since I haven't had a sale all year . . .
It certainly looks like she added the sculptural elements to base beads, especially looking at the beads that only have a few curliques and whatnot on them. I haven't done much with poly clay but I *believe* you can bake the clay multiple times as you add elements. It would make sense, because then you can add all your little decorations and squish them around the bead without worrying about misshaping it as you go. I know I've read about techniques that require multiple bakings, but I can't remember where or when or anything more helpful like that
Those are awesome beads, though. I saved them to my "inspiration" file.
