This is one of three chunky pages I made for a monochromatic red swap.  It's called "Belief is Red".  The font of the page appears on the left, and the back appears on the right.

On the front of the page, the ribbon is stitched down with my sewing machine.  The woman's face is a tape transfer, and the star is a dimensional sparkley bit that I got from OriginalYouth.  The back is a bunch of scrapbook paper layered and painted with red acrylic paint, overlaid with punchinella stenciling (applied with ink).  The back is pretty simple, but I wanted it to be really red!  It has my artist info on it.

Sadly, the scanner died before I could scan the other two pages.  I'll try to take photos of them before I mail them.

Bushbaby and I did a private swap.  She sent me fabric, and I sent her an ATC starter kit.  As a thank you, so sent me her first ever ATC.  You are not going to believe it -- it's so beautiful!!!!

This isn't a great photo -- the colors are much more varied in person, from pink to purple to turquoise.  It's a wonderful card.  Thanks bushbaby!!!

I received a wonderful package of fabric from bushbaby -- I'm going to use these in my postage stamp quilt.

I love the pig fabric the most!  Smiley  She also sent a magazine about Scotland, some candy, and packaged everything beautifully with a pretty ribbon and card.  Thanks bushbaby!

Here's another process shot, just to let you all know that I'm still working on this.  I haven't yet finished any more blocks, but I've been cutting up fabric like a crazy person.

All this fabric is from swaps with (and gifts from) people on Craftster and other sites.  Craftsteritas that contributed to this pile include hardyswanton, originalyouth and lorky.

The squares on the cutting mat are destined to be part of this quilt.  Some people have generously given me larger pieces than I need, so I cut those into squares that I'll store in my "scrap management system" (which, if there's enough interest, I can post separately about) for use in future projects.  At the very top of the photo, you can see some longish pieces -- those are strings (varying lengths, less than 1.5 inches wide) that I'll use for some future string quilt project.

I made this card for a swap on another site, but I like it so much that I just don't know if I can part with it!  It was just a pure process for me, and completely unlike anything else I've ever done, both in terms of the process and the outcome.  The base has been lying around for a long time, and I just picked it up and drew that heart.  Then I added paint and ink and more paint and gesso.  It just flowed.  I call it "Experienced."

I'm scared that I might not be able to make anything like it ever again.

Two new chunky book pages, made for personal swaps.

First, a mixed media heart -- that's a rusty washer in the center of the heart.

Second, a mixed media Queen Elizabeth page.

And a peek at the back of the Queen Elizabeth page:

47  Katxena's Chunky Book Page Gallery (new pages May 10) in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by Katxena on: January 07, 2008 05:04:09 PM
I've been making so many chunky book pages, I decided to post them all in this thread rather than start separate threads for all of them.

___________________ ___________________ ______

I made this chunky book page for a swap on another site.  A chunky book page is generally small (4x4 inches or so), and is made on a heavy base (140 pound watercolor paper or matboard).  Then you add fibers, beads and whatnot, making it "chunky."  I haven't seen many of them on Craftster.

I made this one for someone who wanted pages in the theme of "vintage lingerie."  She wanted pretty and frilly pages that she can join by the corners and make into a wall hanging for her bedroom.

The backs of chunky pages are generally decorated, but not as much of the front.  Here's the back of the page above:

It's got my name and the date, and the title of the page, and some bits and bobs as decoration.

I love this page, and I really, really don't want to give it away.  I want to keep it for myself!!!!  Smiley

Here's the page I received from reenreen.  I apologize for not posting it sooner.

The words on the front say "the head is always fooled by the heart."

And on the back, the words say "one life so live it."

The pages are gorgeous (I love purple!!!) and the sentiments are things I need to be reminded of from time to time.  Thanks reen!!!

I thought I'd post a few "in process" pictures.

First, here's the fabric for all 20 postage stamp blocks.  There are 20 bags (1 for each block) and each has 144 squares in it.  There are a lot of repeats, so as I get new fabric (for other projects or from swaps), I go through each baggie and take out repeats and replace them with new pieces.

Next, here's a shot of some pieces in progress.  In the box lid, you can see two sets of squares (separated by the knitting needle).  The top set is a complete set of 144 (in 7 piles) that I have not yet started sewing.  I've already started sewing the bottom set (there's only 4 piles).

To the  right of the box, you can see several units in process (in quilting terminology, a unit is more than a single piece of fabric, but less than a completed block).  There are 1x1, 2x2, 4x4 units sitting there, some already ironed, some in need of ironing.  My husband jokes that they really should call it "ironing" rather than "sewing."

I work on several different units at the time to keep myself from feeling bored, and to keep maintain my enthusiasm for the project -- you see, this way, I'm always almost done with the next block.

For example, I just finished block #4 a little bit ago, and here's the status of block #5:

You can see that I have 8 units ready to be sewed up.  The one large unit there (4x8) was originally intended for block #4, but some of the fabrics didn't work that well in it, so I set it aside for block #5.  There are some fabrics in #5 from OriginalYouth, and I think one or two from HardySwanton and AlteredMommy.

I probably won't have a chance to work on this again until after Christmas (and in truth, I haven't worked on it in a week!).  I miss it!

Here's block #4 -- it features a few fabrics from OriginalYouth, Hardyswanton, Alteredmommy and Craftsters that participated in the Million Square Swap #2 and others who did private swaps with me. (it's straight I promise, that's a wrinkle in my design wall)

And here's a peek of all 4 together:
