2  Shirt from a Square...with tut in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by StrawberryTwist on: September 05, 2006 08:32:18 AM
I made this shirt the morning before my high school reunion...from a square piece of fabric.

It looks great with my awesome fringed vest and jeans... Grin

~I used the width of the fabric to determine the size of my square...
~Fold it on the diagonal, then sew and cut out where the red lines are for sleeves.
~Cut a narrow triangle for the neck hole, be careful not to make it too wide because it pulls open farther than you think from the weight of the sleeves... Wink
~Make a facing for the neck hole using the piece you cut out for a pattern and sew it in...then hem the bottom and sleeves.

I cut a bit off the ends of the sleeves so they weren't so pointy and long.

3  Appliqued Corset Belt in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by StrawberryTwist on: June 20, 2006 11:59:51 AM
I made this from a lightweight corduroy....I added applique flowers with a vine and backed it with a quilt cotton with interfacing between. (it is reversable, but I didn't take a pic of that, silly me) Then I put in metal gromets and there you have it... Grin

The peasant dress it is modelling was from an 80's sewing pattern I got from a thrift store....I'm gonna have to take out some of the poof from those sleeves, though...they are freakin huge when I wear it...Cheesy

4  Re: Making your own halloween costume-along.. in Halloween Costumes by StrawberryTwist on: February 17, 2006 10:54:58 AM
Oooooh...I didn't see this thread before.

My 3 year old requested a "fire truck" costume. So I got me a cardboard box and some bristolboard and fun foam.
This is what I came up with. I sewed some flourescent(sp?) yellow felt onto a yellow turtle neck and he had a hat already...He loved his fire truck.  Grin
I cut holes in the box for his body, covered it with red bristolboard and cut all the details out of fun foam and glyed them on. Then I added suspenders to hold it up.

5  Stashbuster Sweatercoat *first thread* in Knitting: Completed Projects by StrawberryTwist on: December 17, 2005 05:21:55 AM
Smiley I was inspired by a pattern for a garter-stitch sweatercoat in a 70's craft book, this is my interpretation in stockinette...Please excuse my ends not woven in... Wink

It was knitted on 15mm needles with 5 strands held together...I changed the colours one at a time. It reminds me of an impressionist painting...
I think I will be frogging at least some of it, alas, the hood is too deep and makes me look like E.T.
Also, I wish I had made the trim wider...

It's going to have a frog closure with big wooden beads.
