13  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Re: need red object ideas for table toppers that arent flowers on: September 13, 2006 05:55:26 AM
What about collecting long spindley branches from the yard or park, paint them all bright red and have them sticking up from vases.  I saw this done on some craft page it was so awesome, looked almost like coral but bright red.  Sticks are free paint is cheap too!
14  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Re: Gold N Black on: September 13, 2006 05:51:47 AM
If you dont like flowers candles are nice to do.  You can use all your old worn out cds or those free aol ones as a setting for them.  Put the cd label side down put candles over the hole and done.  Better than buying all those tiny mirror tiles you will not use ever again probably.  Floating candles are pretty too, you can even put some gold and black confetti at the bottom of each one.  My friend doesnt do flowers at all.  Each table had a bottle of champagne wrapped in very very pretty bows, then every table got to open theirs and participate in the bridal toast that is a nice touch.  I have seen small cakes at each table in the wedding colorsm or gourds with small wild flower bouquets in them.  I saw once a wrapped box in the wedding colors at each table.  Inside each one was a letter from bride and groom graciously thanking the guests for their attendance on the big day.  You will find something neat I am sure and more to your tastes, look up all types of centerpieces not just weddings  I bet you would find all kinds of different less floral touches.  Congrats!
15  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / best fall bridal shower! on: September 13, 2006 05:46:09 AM
Ok so next fall my younger sister is getting married and since my older sister and I are total planners and do everything in advanced we planned her shower this weekend when we were bored!  Ha ha!  But I thought I would share some of our ideas here.  We are doing a Jack and Jill shower, meaning men and women and that the groom will also be there.  I think its more fun this way plus the bride is super shy and wouldnt like all the attention on her so I thought she would love to have her man there to share the spotlight with.  It will take place in September in his moms yard.  His mom has a huge property and its very rustic and charming back there.  The deer are so nice that even during a huge yard sale we had there they were around checking everything out!  But heres the list

menu

Hot Apple Cidar
Glazed donuts piled up to look like a wedding cake with homemade cake topper on it
fried chicken with pepper jelly yum!
Crockpot of Chilli
veggie tray with dips
gourment breads of all types we have a great cheaper bakery right here
apple tray, we have fantastic apples around here at that time of year make up a fancy tray with some dips in the middle
mulled wine
fall pies for dessert

Decorations

gingam everywhere!  sis doesnt care for flowers much
centerpiece will be bride and grooms first teddy bears in a tiny wagon on the table they mean alot to the bride and groom they actually keep both of them on their mantle and wanted to include them in the decor for them so they can take some sweet pictures
cute scarecrows around the yard
pumpkins
plastic silverware wrapped in red napkins tied off with gingham
all silverware plates and cups will be in pretty and huge baskets sis can keep to use for laundry and stuff after
simple wreaths in trees
we also have a special cd of wedding and movie love songs through all different eras that is going to be fun to get people talking everything from somebodies getting marrie from the muppets take manhattan to a bagpipe wedding march......very unique and a good conversation starter

special touches
four bridesmaids so we are each making up a different season basket
like fall will be in a turkey roasting pan sis really wants one it will have a halloween candy dish, fall candles, cloth napkins for a thanksgiving table, fall spices and some recipes in a jar, christmas will be william sonoma cookie gun and and fancy candle sticks wrapped with christmas candles, a set of holiday cards, some new years champagne and a new our first christmas togethor ornament etc etc for each season this will give sis some out of season stuff she will not have to purchase and a way to use her little gifts all year long.  We are also making a very special cook book with fave recipes from bride and grooms moms aunts and grandmas, sis loves to cook groom is very much a man that loves his family recipes!  We are going to add scanned pictures of each family member who turns in a recipe and why they wanted to pass each one on to the couple.  Very sentimental and special and some are even silly, sis recipe for choo choo wheels when she was little on up to great grandmothers special pyrogy recipe.  The door prizes at the shower will be gourmet baskets with different themes, ie an italian ceramic bowl with dried pastas and gourmet sauces etc. a bundt pan stuffed with spices and mixes for fancy cakes etc.

invites
these are going to be great!  since this is coed its going to be a handmade card that says Johnny Cash lyrics at the top, "if I were a carpenter and you were a lady, would you still marry me?"  "Carpenter and Lady are registered at...."  card tucked inside and the party info.

favors
each guest will take home a huge carmel apple wrapped really pretty tied with rafia and set into a handpainted terra cotta flower pot.  we think this is a nice idea, a great snack to eat at home later and a useful flower pot for a plant or candle.  Everyone around here gives out tiny bundles of poppouri at showers or almonds wrapped in tulle.  We wanted to do something more homespun and more to the couples tastes.  They are very casual and not into flowers and stuff.

We are so excited over this that we wish it was tommorrow!  We have already helped sis pick locations and favors for the wedding and all other aspects are being planned now to the last detail.  I hope you liked these ideas I know fall is very popular for weddings and wanted to share our spin on a different kind of shower
16  CRAFTING FOR GOOD AND NOT EVIL / Crafty Charitable/Social Causes / something to make for the school on: September 11, 2006 09:17:32 PM
So I need to make some crafts and donate them to the kids school by the end of November.  I want to make something that will sell well for the school dont get me wrong but honestly I do not have tons of cash.  I am not going to do any knitting for this cause that is too costly for me so I dont know what to do.  I found some ornaments online maybe to do called angel feather ornaments?  Anyone familiar with these? One lady said she sold them for five bucks each and did well I dont know, I have never heard of them or I was thinking those simple beaded safety pin bracelets?  Any advice or ideas would be great thanks alot!

18  CLOTHING / Clothing for Curvaceous Craftsters: Discussion and Questions / Re: The "clothes for normal women" on Project Runway on: September 08, 2006 09:29:07 PM
Bravo to you for posting those pics!  I was somewhat upset when they claimed on the show to not understand the proportions. This boggles me what is not to understand?  You measure the model and then make clothes to fit her?Huh  I dont get what is soooo hard about designing bigger clothes you use more material but the same ideas duh!  Uly had the best outfit I will say that but Kayne had the best idead......"she is not a size two she is not even a size ten but she is gorgeous!"  Kayne will go far with an understanding attitude like that!  They always are saying how so many people are overweight now days, well if that is the case that most women are larger, then why dont the clothing choices and stores reflect this?  Gosh its just so common sense to me!
