1  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Kenmore Mini Ultra--Problem? on: May 16, 2005 12:22:14 PM
I just bought a Kenmore Mini Ultra from a Sears Liquidation Sale on Ebay. Essentially these are items that have been returned and *might* be missing some parts (mine seems to be missing a dustcover, but everything else is there). These items are a little iffy, but much cheaper than normal. I got mine for $30.

I'm a brand new sewer and know next to nothing about sewing machines. I plugged it in to try it out, and it seems to work fine *except* after I stop pressing the foot pedal, and the needle stops, sometimes (a little over half the time) when I press the foot pedal to get it going again it doesn't move and just makes this whirring noise. But if I turn the knob on the side of the machine that moves the needle up and down (just read the manual and can't remember what it's called...) and then press the pedal, it works just fine.

Is this normal? Is it something to be worried about? Is it just the position of the needle that throws it off or what? (usually I put the needle all the way up before pushing the pedal again.) Ok, I would *really* appreciate help on this! Thanks!
