1  military style gear - help with cordura and webbing, please?? in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions by animegirlie on: March 31, 2014 08:47:14 PM
ok - so my stitches look decent and I have the molle spec down for making miltary style gear but the cordura i'm using as the base fabric (kinda like backpack material) keeps puckering and I cannot figure out why!

Using 1000 denier Cordura + 1" nylon webbing + 96 weight nylon webbing thread (basically upholstery weight and a custom bartack I made on the machine. I have the tension and the presser foot cranked down.

It might actually be that I have the wrong foot (I've tried using both feet that come with the machine that have the highest channel under the foot) OR I'm using the same weight thread in the bobbin and the top but check out the picture below and see what you think.

2  heavy polyester thread has white film in Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions by animegirlie on: March 23, 2014 04:37:16 PM
I'm using size 92 thread to make some military spec bags, etc. but the theard I got seems to sloughing off this white film. Anyone have ideas on how to stop it or why the thread is doing this?

the thread is black coming off the spool, but after going through the machine and fabric, it has this white film. See below:

HOLY SMOKES!! that is awesome! I love Toushiro but Renji is one of my all time favorites! I named this little one Renji in his honor:

He's 8 months old now and his face lines are WAY more prominent which makes his name more appropriate.

Ya'll are amazing by the way! I love these projects, but I have not the patience they require.

Date:
Saturday, November 7, 2009
Time:
3:00pm - 6:00pm
Location:
712 N. Heliotrope, Los Angeles, CA 90028

Come join LA Cycle Chic for a really relaxed ride to shopping on Melrose. We'll meet at Scoops and people can get ice cream while they are getting ready to ride or if people prefer they can get ice cream after or not at all. Scoops is vegan friendly. Also Pure Luck vegan restaurant is right across the street in case people want to get dinner after. There are also plenty of places along the route if we need refreshment. The Metro Redline stops as Vermont & Santa Monica and it is a short ride from there to where we are meeting. Parking can be tricky in the area so plan to arrive early if you are driving. As a group we'll decide how much shopping we do. Dress should be chic. I hope you can make it.

Edit: If you are planning on attending please sign up to follow us on Twitter that way we can tweet where we are and you can tweet us and everyone can K.I.T.

6  French Knot Fancy Cuff in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by animegirlie on: April 12, 2009 01:16:30 PM
I posted this over in the embroidery forum as well, but thought the jewelry folks would appreciate this as well...

I have been doing embroidery off and on for about 20 years now and have never ever been able to get the hang of French Knots. A few weeks ago, I finally kicked myself in the keester and went in search of of some good picture tutorials on French Knots and voila! I got it down FINALLY!

Here is the tutorial I used - Purl Bee

The entire cuff is hand sewn - I did all the embroidery, and the backing by hand. I used upholstery fabric for the embroidery side and brown silk for the inside.

the whole cuff:

that's a nice bright red!

I got my hair cut over the weekend and here's how it looks after I styled it this morning:

about 85-90% of the "after salon" look - which lasted me 2 days!!

I'm super pleased!
