2  CLOTHING / Designer Clothing Homage / Re: American Apparel Tunic (recon from t-shirt?) on: May 10, 2006 08:26:56 PM
i suggest just buying the tunic cause:
1) it's not that expensive ($26)
2) if you're not that familiar with sewing (which i assume from the questions you asked) it would probally take way more time and effort than it's worth especially since working with jersey/t shirts is a bitch
3) lastly, usually the reason i make/reconstruct my own clothes is because i don't want to support slave/sweat shop labor and horrid working conditions and corporations whose only incentive is profit. In american apparels case though, they create there products in a sweat shop free environment in california and provide benefits for their emplyees.

so if you're going to use thrift shop t shirts and are willing to sacrifice some time for the experience, i say go for it, but if you really just don't want to pay that much, and would make it out of a shirts from walmart, I strongly encourage you to buy the dress.

But whatever, I'm sorry i ranted and don't mean to sound harsh

(I would use two white large white shirts, use one to make the cowl and bodice, and attach the other one as the skirt with the elastic, and don't flare it)
3  CLOTHING / Designer Clothing Homage / Re: I am obsessed with clothes. Help me PLEASE! on: May 10, 2006 08:15:22 PM
all of these dresses are pretty simple, so i think that the fabric and colour is more important. and avoid sewing with jersey if you're a beginner, it can be a real pain in the ass.
The "Pint Sized" dress looks like it's just a baby doll with some ribbion detail. I suggest buying white frabric and ribbon and dying it, so that the colours match well. um, if you look around the dress turtorials, i know there's a page listing them, you can find tutorials about how to make dresses pretty similar, you just might have to alter it a  bit. next, spend a little time looking around befora you post a new thread. good luck with your obession!

don't forget to say "whack" as in" Your mom flushed your stash? that's whack!"
and cuts or cutty , "Vallejo is out in the cuts" or "greyhounds pretty cuttty (shady)"
But, hella or hecka is not tolerated in Santa Cruz which is less than two hours south of SF. so be warned
