Unfortunately, the Oldsmar Flea Market will soon be no more.   Cry

It will be a SuperTarget.   Angry
102  Florida / Florida: Central / Re: Central Florida crafters!! where are you?? on: May 31, 2005 02:30:29 PM
I'm way over in Clearwater, just west (and over the causeway) of Tampa - which I guess makes me not so central, haha.   Grin  But there's got to be some crafty gals (and guys!) this side of the Big O!

I do many many different kinds of crafting, but very few of the more "conventional" ones, like knitting/ crochet/embroidery - but I'm learning!  In the meantime, I  sew, and sometimes even print my own fabric (and carve my own printing blocks).  I also am quite fond of crafting wire-and-bead jewelry, making things from little bits of felt/cloth, and the outdated wonders of macrame.  ...and drawing, and puttering about with clay (polymer and kiln-fired), and finding unconventional and/or forgotten traditional uses for my crafts.  And lately I've been obsessed with traditional Japanese handicrafts.

Does anyone have any shops to recommend over on my side?  Is anyone from the Clearwater/Saint Petersburg/Tampa area?
103  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Re: Yay for the hemp! on: May 28, 2005 12:39:14 PM
The hemp rope sold in craft stores IS real hemp, but it is NOT marijuana (ie Cannabis sativa / indica).  They are both in the hemp "family," but the hemp for smoking is an entirely different plant than the hemp for ropemaking, clothing, etc.
Hemp of ANY kind is illegal to grow  in the US and hemp products are illegal to manufacture ( -insert rant against politics/capitalism/petrochemicals here- ), but it is legal to import and sell IF it has absolutely no relation to the smokeable, THC-/DZT-laden Cannabis.  That is why -
- hemp rope is okay to sell (and is generally imported from Austria, I've noticed)
- hemp seeds are sold in health food stores* and in bird seed (they are, however, sterilized)
- the govt is in the process of approving hemp (NOT marijuana) for food use / human consumption (as it is very, very good for you)

* they're sold by the pound, are very cheap and make a tasty porridge and/or trail mix.  they're actually classified as a nut (because of their hard outer shell) and are deeeeee-lishus.
104  Florida / Florida: Central / Craftsters in Clearwater/Saint Petersburg area? on: May 17, 2005 07:33:30 AM
I KNOW YOU'RE OUT THERE.  With as many galleries and artists' fairs and independent thinking people as we have over here, I just CAN'T be the only crafty gal in the county!

I've got the itch to be in a crafting group something fierce  -  I don't knit or do too much needlework, but I sew and do lots of other crafty-stype stuff and I LOVE to learning new crafty things.  I'm having te damnedest time finding fellow craftsters over here...  and, to my knowledge, the closest group may be in Tampa - which is a bit too far for me to go, seeing as I don't drive.

I get lonely, always crafting by myself.  Who wants to craft with meeeeee???
