Great bag and nice work - looks really well made!  For anyone interested, alcantara is a more expensive version of ultra/micro suede.

Thank you Smiley I've checked ebay for this material and yes, it's really pricey (which is really sad, I liked it a lot!). But lucky for me, I paid less than 2$ for this jacket Smiley

What a beautiful bag! I love the material. It looks very soft.

Very beautiful construction! Smiley

Thank you both very much! Smiley

What a beautiful bag! I have a serious handbag addiction and will be looking for the perfect jacket to make one from!! I have bookmarked, pinned and drooled over this bag  Grin  Thank you so much for posting a tutorial on your blog. I will be following you to see what you make next. Such talent!!

Thank you, Solitaire Smiley It's so nice to hear compliments, but I don't think it's a talent: it's a skill that can developed in a spare time Smiley

Looks great! What are the dimensions of your bag?  And is it made out of suede?

Thank you Smiley The dimensions are 30cm x 30cm x 10cm. Material is alcantara (which is basically the polyester alternative for suede)

your bag turned out great!!

Thank you  Smiley

Love your bag! I like that colour!

I have seen a bag made from a skirt in a book and wanted to do that. But now I know I can also look for a nice jacket next time I am at the thrift store!

Thanks for sharing. You made a great tutorial on your blog too!!

It's my pleasure to be able to share the tutorials if they are helpful Smiley

OH MY GOODNESS!!! that is so cute!  love the framed square.  that fabric looks thick. did it kill your machine??? (or do you have a heavy duty machine?)

very nice Cheesy

No, the fabric isn't hard to sew at all! I was so surprised that it was so easy to sew Smiley But even if I would have used some other material (faux leather for example) it wouldn't have been a big problem - there aren't many layers to sew in this bag Smiley

That is brilliant and amazingly well done, nice job!

Thank you very much Smiley

That bag looks much smarter than the jacket did! Is it suede? I looks wonderful and I love the little leaf detail for the handles.

Thank you, Antidigger! The material is called alcantara (I first heard of it when I read the tag on a jacket): it looks like suede, it feels like suede and yet it's made from polyester. Amazing material to work with, unfortunately I haven't seen any in regular fabric stores (I'm not from USA) and the ones I saw on Ebay had a pretty high price... I guess I'll have to thrift more to find this material again Cheesy

Hello Everyone!

This is my latest bag made from a jacket which I found in a thrift store. It was a really interesting project: way easier to make than I thought it would be and it turned out to be my favorite bag (so far). I hope you like it Smiley

Blogged here: http://bagsyoucanmake.blogspot.com/2012/01/bag-from-jacket.html

If you want to make it yourself, I also posted a tutorial on my blog here: http://bagsyoucanmake.blogspot.com/2012/01/tutorial-how-i-made-bag-from-jacket.html

Ok, now the picture time:

And this is a jacket which gave me an idea for this bag:

The simplicity of this top is striking!  I can see why you like to wear it, I would to!  Cheesy
simple but very sweet.

Thank you both, it's very nice to hear Smiley
