i just got home yesterday, they loved the gifts. it turns out like half of the people going got their hosts the keep louisville weird shirts.

finger puppets would be so cool! you should definetly try that. maybe you could make one of a cardinal, too? and/or a wildcat for that matter (i was just thinking the cardinal is our state bird) good luck on your trip!

thank you Smiley i ended up getting sofie (the student who is hosting me) a "keep louisville weird" shirt and her parents a Kentucky Derby cookbook, to go with the horse theme.

I'm going to Denmark in a little over a week and I'd like to get my host family gifts that represent Louisville and/or Kentucky. Does anyone have any ideas? They can be bought or made but need to be able to go through customs and fly on a plane (so no whiskey or fragile items).

(this was already posted in the gift idea section but then I realized I had to represent our state, so I hope someone from Kentucky can offer some good advice)

Thanks so much!

it's kind of close to cherry bomb, at least on the same side of the road. closer to doowop if i'm not mistaken.

good news: queen of rags isn't closed, it just moved to bardstown rd. and is now under the name retro rocket. right before they moved they had an amazing everything for a dollar and everything for fifty cents sale. i haven't been to the new one yet but i've heard good things about it.

thanks to you both, those are both great ideas! i was actually thinking about weaving a bag (but now perhaps making a blanket) with the danish flag on it (it's red with a white cross pushed to the left side, i think like england's only reversed colors). the candy part is also a great idea, when they come over here they always bring their licorice for us.

I remember taking a field trip to the Little Loom house when I was a kid and I was just wondering if anyone knows if it's still open, where it is, and what it offers. It was a great place from what I can recall and now that I've gotten into textiles (mostly for a concentration in art class, but I'd like to pursue working with them over the summer) I wondered if it would be a good resource.
40  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Gift For Danish Exchange Host on: May 06, 2005 03:39:33 PM
I'm traveling to Denmark with school this summer and I wanted to make my host a gift, and something for her family as well. The problem is all I know about her is that she's a girl about the age of 16, and I know nothing about her family. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks!
