I'm a teacher and I love all of the gifts that my kids give me. My favorite gift is when a child picks out their favorite book and donates it to the classroom. I always have them sign the inside of the cover so I will always remember who gave me the book. I also received a very sweet poem this year with a kite attached. The mother also wrote me a very sweet note about helping her child grow and learn. Here is the poem:
I see children as kites. You spend a lifetime trying to get them off the ground. You run with them until you're breathless.
They crash...hit the rooftop...you patch and comfort, adjust and they'll fly. Finally they are airborne. But with a twist of the ball of twine there is a sadness that goes with the joy.
The kite becomes more distant and you know it won't be long before that beautiful creature will snap the lifeline that binds you together and will soar,
As it's meant to soar...free and alone
And you will know you have done your job.
