31  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Junker Jane Style Doll Swap, sign ups CLOSED; send by Jan 18 on: December 27, 2012 07:18:11 PM
I sketched out a rough pattern for my doll, and I'm beginning to see a problem.  I'm afraid my doll might turn out not junky enough.  I love the way the fabric I have laid out goes together which means it might be too matchy-matchy.  It is possible that my creation will look primitive in an obviously staged way.  Boo.  Maybe I'm being my worst critic.  I don't know.  I just hope the final product remains within the spirit of the swap's inspiration.  Also the colors have turned dark because the doll said so (yes, really!), so now I need to find a way to add a splash of color.  Hrmmm....

My trip to the scrapbook store yielded funky eye possibilities.  I took a side trip to a frou-frou quilting store and picked up the fat quarters (like I need any more fabric) for doll appendages.  I also got a purse pattern that I definitely don't need.  Tomorrow I'll most likely hit the thrift stores for more quality junk doll supplies.  Now that the doll's design has begun to blossom in my head, I am getting super excited to see if I can make it happen.

I still have guests at my house, but I plan on hauling out my fabrics today and see what will work with my design.  I have credit at a local scrapbook store that I need to redeem, so I might head down there today and see what kind of distressing inks they have.  I showed my mother pictures of Junker Jane dolls - she's not impressed, ha ha!  She's pretty traditional with her tastes, so a misshapen, dirty rag doll is not her thing.  It's a good thing I don't have to be her clone  Grin

35  CLOTHING / Costumes: Completed Projects / Silver and Pink Zebra Pasties (Modeled by Elmo) on: December 20, 2012 01:04:06 PM
Not a complete costume, but here are my first nipple pasties!  I needed something to bring for a white elephant gift exchange, and as a joke I suggested I'd make some.  I hope the right person winds up with them on Saturday  Roll Eyes

I just got Leslieshappyheart's message about needing to post here at least once a week - oops!  I have been in contact with my partner several times.  I have taken copious notes on what I might make make for her, both for the doll and for the extra item.  However, currently I am working on my white elephant gift for this Saturday.  What can I say, I must finish two sets of nipple pasties for the weekend, so I can see who will be shocked at the party  Shocked

I'm beginning to feel like a small-time crafter in a group of mixed media artists.  Y'all are talking about cohesive design elements and organizing your scrap stash.  I haven't pulled out the first piece of fabric for this, but I know where my jar of instant coffee is.

I have been busy working on making fabric bags of a desiccant for drying out my sweaty workout gear, ha ha!  Yeah, I'm a standout crafter  Grin

I just now sent in my Q&A.  It's been forever since I've been in a swap, so I'm very excited to get involved in one again!  I've not heard of Junky Jane before, but I love her style.
39  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Other Image Reproduction Techniques: Completed Projects / Re: Custom Logo Flag on: September 29, 2012 05:18:10 PM
That is one gorgeous flag.  I intend to make a flag of my roller derby league's logo for a parade.  I was going to paint the logo on with acrylic paint mixed with textile medium.  I like your technique better, but I don't know if I have time for all of that stitching.

Too fun!  I'm thinking several of these on my front porch will be *awesome* for Halloween.  I don't know if I can wait that long though!
