I am knitting Otis from Knitty Spring 2004, http://knitty.com/ISSUEspring04/PATTotis.html
I've knitted the front two cross over panels, (well almost) and I've discovered a problem with the pattern. I've searched all the boards and haven't been able to find anyone else referring to a similar problem. I do think I read something on a blog one time, but I'll be *amned if I can find it.
The left and right panels are basically the same except reversed. Three rows of seed stitch then plain knitting with some waist shaping and then the decrease to make the cross over style front. My problem comes at the end of the following section, it comes from the instructions for the left front panel :-Cont to work wrap shaping as established 7 times more, ending with RS facing. (46(50, 54, 58] sts). Work will measure 8[8, 9, 9] inches from beg.
Cont working wrap shaping at the end of each RS row as established
At the same time, begin armhole shaping as follows:
Row 1 (RS): BO 3 sts, work to end.
Row 2 and all WS rows: K1, p to last st, k1.
Row 3: BO 2 sts, work to end.
Next 2[3, 3, 4] RS rows: SSK, work to end. (35[37, 41, 43] sts).Work wrap shaping 15[17, 19, 21] times more, ending with RS facing. (20[20, 22, 22] sts). Work will measure 14[14.5, 15, 15.5] inches from beg.
I'm knitting the largest size so I'll be referring to the last number in the square brackets. Basically what's happened is, everythings fine at the 9 inch mark, ie. before the armhole shaping. I have the right number of stitches on my needle and the work measures the right length. The armhole shaping also appears to be fine, it's straight forward line by line instruction and and the stitches are right. I've highlighted where my problems begin. "Work wrap shaping 21 times more", I take to mean 42 more rows of knitting with a decrease on the right side, as the wrap shaping is given as two rows of knitting earlier on. I end up with 22 sts on my needle, and it looks ok, however it measures way more than 15.5 inches. It's more like 18 plus inches! The same thing happens on the other side.
So is it just a misprint? or am I doing something wrong? This is very frustrating.
I'm sure others out there must have attempted this pattern.
Please help. Kim.
