91  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / poster paint on handmade clay? on: December 13, 2005 06:25:15 AM
I found these two recipes for homemade clay:

 Make Flour-based Dough
1.     Mix 4 c. flour, 1 c. salt, some food coloring and enough water to moisten.
2.     Mix the ingredients, adding water until you have the desired consistency. The clay should be stiff but still hold together when rolled into a ball.
3.   Store in refrigerator to avoid spoiling. This clay dries hard and can be painted or decorated with markers or pens.

Or, Make Salt Dough
Steps:
1.     Mix 2 c. flour with 1 c. salt and 3/4 c. water in a deep bowl.
2.     Knead it until it's doughy.
3.     Add food coloring or glitter.
4.     Add more water if the dough is too crumbly. If it's too sticky, add a little more flour.
5.     Make several batches in different colors.
6.     Store in an airtight container in the fridge for about a week.

But my question is, can you use normal poster paint to paint over the clay instead of pouring in food colouring? And later coat the paint with PVA glue. Will it work? Will it last? Thanks in advance!
92  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Portable Sewing Machine on: December 12, 2005 10:33:37 AM
We don't have much space at home just yet cause we just shifted in but I'm already dying for a portable sewing machine for myself so it doesn't have to be professional (I'm a sewing machine noob, but my mom knows how to use it properly) or expensive. I found tons at ebay and look what else I found:

I can't help but be really suspicious. It starts at less than AU$1.00. I actually don't have a credit card but I have an account on paypal. Would you bid? Would you even want it?

That's really spiffy! The dustcover is pretty and the cover YOU made is brilliant! I like how you folded the original pages so that you could see the words through the exposed part where the spine for the cover was supposed to be!

Thanks! I've already read from the link you gave me that I was NOT supposed to glue the signatures to the spine  cover! I feel so silly now  Undecided You've been  a great help! I can't wait to start on my next project Wink

I've been lurking at craftster for like ages, but I never really posted Sad Anyway, I followed this tutorial -->http://personal.mem.bellsouth.net/d/r/drv1913/0204pg1.html and I've made a journal! The only thing is, something is wrong, and I really don't know what to do. The tutorials never seem to come across this problem, so I thought maybe I did something wrong in the process!

From this picture, the book can only open up to this much! I could force it some more but that would just tear the paper I glued to the covers.

Here are more pictures of the problem:

I asked my mom about it and she said I wasn't supposed to glue the spine to the side of the papers. But would that be able to hold?

I also have another problem: I used black satin-like fabric as the cover and I used a medium sized paintbrush to spread glue over the covers and laid the black cloth over it. It kinda looks awful! Should I use thicker cloth (it was kinda thin), not use glue at all on the covers but only on the inside or use less glue?

I would really appreciate it if anyone could help me out! I'm like an uber noob Sad
