11  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Aran Felted Hot Water Bottle on: April 05, 2005 06:09:31 AM
I'm pleased as punch with the way this project worked out, although there are a few mistakes.  This was my first experience with aran cables!  More details and stuff on my blog, here:

12  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Winding Yarn w. an Electric Mixer - Tutorial link on: March 16, 2005 09:53:44 AM

My new yarn swift from JoAnn arrived yesterday, and eager to try it out but without the accompanying yarn winder, I thought I'd give my handmixer a chance to do the winding.

Turning 440 yards of this...

into this...

took only like 4 minutes!  There's a full tutorial on my blog here:

http://www.figandplum.com/archives/000365.html

If you try it, let me know how it goes for you!
13  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / La Boobholder, Avec Stripes on: February 25, 2005 06:16:12 PM
Here she is, a bloggers' favorite, done in 2 skeins of Lamb's Pride.  I modified the pattern a bit to de-poof the sleeves, and the end product seems very wearable.  More deets and stuff on ma blog :-)
14  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Ani DollFranco on: February 22, 2005 03:39:27 PM

Ani: she's cute and badass at the same time. I'm still looking for a little guitar for her and thinking of embroidering some tats or a Righteous Babe logo on her sweater! I'll post any of those updates later. Still trying to decide what I'll do with her - either put her up for the NYU Law Public Interest Auction later this week or send her to my five-year old niece, Lorin. Anyhoo, the pattern was pretty fun - I imagine it would be a good project for anyone just starting to learn how to use DPNs for smaller work.  More photos and thoughts on the pattern here:

15  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Sassy Crossback Ribbon Tank - Link to Free Pattern on: February 13, 2005 07:02:39 PM
Here's my cutie patootie 5-year-old niece, Lorin, sporting her new ribbon tank:

It was made from a free pattern that can be found here:

http://www.kerriesplace.co.uk/exotictank.html

Sorry I've no photo of the back, but you can see it in the pattern link - it's a crossback, but the straps can also be fastened uncrossed to allow a growing kid to get one more summer out of it.

Two more things: the pattern is modifiable for adults, and the yarn called for, Phildar Exotic, is discontinued.  More deets at der blog, below.

Now if summer could just hurry up and come back so's I can make me a grown-up version!
16  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Simple Rainbow Colinette Scarf on: January 29, 2005 12:41:37 PM

Ever in the mood with a completely lulling project?  I was, and I had some of this Colinette Skye laying around so I just started knitting this without really thinking about it.  I think the simple rib really lets the beautiful yarn do the work.  It's just 2 skeins of a simple k2, p2 rib with 16" lengths of yarn looped through the bottom.

Here's a closeup of the rib:

(sorry for the terribly jumbled mirror photo!)
17  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Mighty Cute Koigu Roll-Top Baby Booties on: January 08, 2005 10:57:50 AM

Roll-top baby booties made with Koigu painter's palette and US2 dpns.  The pattern was a modified version of a pattern from 50 Baby Bootees to Knit by Zoe Mellor.    I wish I had wee feet so I could wear these too!

18  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Hemming Jeans Preserving Original Hem? on: June 24, 2004 08:59:14 AM
A while back someone told me that there's a way to hem jeans that preserves the original hem instead of creating a brand new hem that looks super dumb.  Does anyone know how to do this?
19  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Pattern for boyshort undies? on: January 13, 2004 03:27:21 PM
Does anyone know of a good pattern for boyshorts?  I'm thinking of making some out of an old cashmere sweater, for PJs.
