11  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Re: Skulls on: October 27, 2006 04:51:30 AM
Thanks for the info.  I used that one as a reference, then cut it out of drywall.  It should be strong enough for the game now.

12  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Skulls on: October 26, 2006 10:58:36 AM
I am looking for a pic of a skull.  It needs to be child friendly.  I want to make a bean bag toss game for a Halloween party.  I plan to use the eye socckets, nasal socket and mouth as the openings to toss the bean bags into.  I would like a pic for a referrence, so that I can draw it out onto posterboard.  Does anyone have a link that may help me out?

Thanks
Delia

Very nice bag- love the shape. May I ask what it is that you refer to as a jumper? This piece looks like it is knitted to me.

It is another term for a sweater.

I was thinking the same thing.  I think she may have done something a little different to the back, but it is a variation of the dress we have all made.
Her modeling this also goes to show how versatile it can be.  She is  early in her pregnancy and it still looks good on her, and it travels well.

I decided to post a pic of the one I made.  It is made from a woven fabric with sheer fabric accents.  I used the sheer to finish the bottom hem and added it to the straps at the shoulder.  the straps have less bulk when tieing.  I do not have a large bust so the sides gape, to night when I was trying it on I thought about adding darts to the outside edge of the straps.  I think I will try that tomorrow.  I plan to wear it to a retirement ceremony Friday.

17  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Re: Best type of sewing machine for bags...? on: July 14, 2006 09:59:09 PM
the trick to sewing bags is to make sure you have the proper size needle and strong thread if needed.  you need to use a heavy duty needle for most bags.

try the bowling alley.  there are very similar bags for carrying bowling balls.  you could look at one and get an idea of how they are made.

you could try a pattern for a football shaped pillow.  just do a little altering to make  it a purse.  most pattern companies have them, especially now that school is about to start.

Just a thought about bulkiness.  If you make the straps with 2 different fabrics it may work.  Make the straps from the waist to just past the shoulder in main fabric, you can then add a sheer or lightweight fabric to the strap for the rest of the length.  I think the two fabrics will give a nice look and it will cut down on the bulkiness when tied.
