1  More Rag Quilts! Plus, I want your opinion! in Quilting: Completed Projects by VintageMissRRT on: January 12, 2012 11:20:48 PM
It was a rag quilt theme for this past Christmas... at least for the gifts I made. I already posted on the NFL themed ones I made, but I also made one for my younger brother (blue and green themed, which I apparently did not photograph grrr!!!), my sister in law, and myself.

I used flannel for all my rag quilts, and I am thinking about experimenting with quilters cotton for a  rag quilt. Cause the beauty of rag quilts is that you don't have to bind the edges (which I stink like a dead fish at).

I don't know my sister in law very well, but I do know two things about her: she loves cats and the color pink. So when I found pink flannel with cats on them, I knew that was the one for her. Plus she is ALWAYS cold. Even in SoCal, where they live.

Here is hers:

Now, I was making all these rag quilts and I decided I wanted one of my own. So I chose two flannels in two of my top ten favorite colors (tealy-blue and chocolate brown) with graphics I loved (music notes and hearts) and made my own wonkily designed rag quilt:

C&C always welcome.

Also, I would like to know what all of you Craftsters think about making a queen sized rag quilt/comforter from regular quilters cotton using flannel as the batting? I love the quilts that are lighter (weight wise) and I also love the cozy look that ragging produces. Do you think it would be a feasible?

2  Lap Bunting Quilt (And why I am looking up alternatives to Bias tape) in Quilting: Completed Projects by VintageMissRRT on: January 08, 2012 05:30:09 PM
I was invited a week ago to a baby shower held today (way to go short notice!). I was on the fence about whether I should go or not, because I am firends with two of the girls sisters, not the mom-to-be herself (who is a very bitter and mean person), and it seems like anyone who had ever said hi to the sisters got invited. I decided I should start making something either way because if I did go, I would have a present and if I didn't go, I could send the gift to a friend of mine whwo just had her second child.

Well, long story short, I decided not to go. I also decided not to send the quilt to my friend. Why? Well two reasons really. One, I loved it too much to part with it. Two, I screwed up something bad on the binding. IDK what it is about me and bias tape being used as binding on a quilt, but I always screw it up (although you can't see it much in this picture)

Any who's, here it is:

I gotta give credit to my inspiration, even though I didn't use their patterns:

3  My First Post Aka NFL Inspired Rag Quilts. in Quilting: Completed Projects by VintageMissRRT on: January 01, 2012 12:06:29 AM
This is my first post on Craftster, so I'm a little nervous posting amongst some of the most magnificent crafters I have ever seen, but C&C is always welcome.

This is the front of a Green Bay Packers Rag Quilt I made for my best friend, who is the most epic Cheesehead Ever. I know the green's and yellows aren't exact Green Bay Packer shades, but my bestie thinks their colors are too dark anyway:

And here is the Back:

This is the Dallas Cowboy one I made for my brother. Again, not exact color representation, but he liked it. And the "c" is a little wonky, but for one of my first rag quilts, I don't think I did too bad:
