12  underwater window in Interior Decorating: Completed Projects by sham on: August 05, 2005 04:04:29 PM
so one of my roommates and i found these crazy cranes without beaks or legs, and i decided they were seamonsters. so, i painted them up, painted the window sill, and put them in their new home.

so then i decided that wasn't enough. and painted the entire wall area next to the window.

the bottom is an anchor and some ocean-life.

and the top are fish depictions of the girls in the apartment. each shows something about us. the top has a flower tattoo, the middle loves the red sox(that's a championship ring on the fin), and the bottom one (me) has a "hook" in the lip (i have my lip pierced)

Grin i love them!

13  hedgehog pin cushion w/ tut in Completed Projects by sham on: July 01, 2005 07:55:34 AM
all the credit for this has to go to minouette, because otherwise i wouldn't have made this. she made a cactus pin cushion, and mentioned she had thought about making a hedgehog. i think hedgehogs are the coolest, so i went ahead and made one!

this is him wandering around my sewing machine:

he's a little long and thin (not as round and fat as i had intended) but i think he's still very cute.

EDIT!:
ok, as requested, here is a little tutorial, ghetto as it is, i think it'll be okay...

first, you want to cut up some felt. i just made it up as i went along, but i wish lancelot (as named by my friend) was more round now, so i guess this is the part that you would want to modify. make these pieces wider and longer if you want him fat. so cut pieces (they'll be jagged on both sides because you cut from the same piece) and sew those bitches together. i just used black on dark brown, and you can't see stitches.

next up is the face. you want to take a fat triangle, and sew it together to make a cone. just fold it in half, sew up one side, and flip it right side out. then you can add bead eyes and a felt nose or whatever tickles your hedgehog's fancy. lancelot has a tiny, hedgey smile.

after you have the face-cone, you want to sew it to the body. just overlap one end of the spikes on top of the cone and sew around it. it should cover a little over one half of the circumfrence of the bottom of the cone (because the underbelly needs room to attach too)
finally, you want to cut out a felt oval, same color as the face. this is the underbelly. sew some felt feet on there. then, you just want to attach it to the body parts you've already done. sew it up like the red lines suggest below. but leave an opening to fill up the hedgehog with stuffing. i used some left over pillow stuffing... but the pins sort of slide out easily. i'd reccommend some foam pieces, some more felt, or any fabric that pins may want to stay stuck in.

yep. that's about it. hope nothing's confusing.
let me know how they turn out!!

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAY! i'm so glad you got it today, i was worried you'd have to wait until monday....  (i don't have a good pic of the buttons, but if you have a scanner, i've found that just laying them facedown on the glass works really well.)

earrings (the pink out of little doll shoes, the black ones are made out of star beads and record pieces):

piano pendant (from sculpey, next to a nickel):

aaannnddd... the pillow!
back ("who could ever ever ask for more/ love without complications galore", and the little squiggles are actually amanda's eyebrows... haha)

front ("that is why i want a coin operated boy", and the outline of brian giving flowers, like in the video)

glad you like it <3
