2  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Wood, bamboo, metal, plastic? Which is your favorite kind of needle on: November 15, 2005 06:51:36 AM
I too hate the click-click-cliking of metal needles!! I adore my Brittany wood needles--my mom only uses wood needles too so maybe it's a family thing. In one of her more spiritual/new-agey moods she told me that wood was my element. I guess that's true--I love making things with wood and will only knit with wood (or bamboo for smaller sizes) needles!

4  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Re: A Gift For A Knitter on: November 14, 2005 06:22:47 PM
my two cents:

-No Idle Hands (it's a book about the history of knitting in America--it's really neat and my own mother recommended it to me, so it's mom approved!)

-a subscription to a knitting magazine

-one of those stitch-a-day desk calendars (very cool)

-there are alot of knitting books out there (zen of knitting, mindful knitting, knitlit) and books/movies with knitting characters in them (personal favs: miss marple series and wallace and gromit)

-a binder for her to put all of her patterns, future project ideas, and inspiration...decorated with cool knitting pics

-maybe you could paint her a knitting plaque of some sort with a quote about knitting or something

-a row keeper bracelet (you can find one on Patternworks.com) that you buy or you make yourself...

I would suggest using your crafts to celebrate her craft (if that doesn't sound too hallmark-y)

Good Luck!!

7  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Re: WISDOM TEETH?! on: November 12, 2005 05:13:36 PM
i know it's too late to give an idea...but...i think that a scarf is the best gift. hear me out now, when i had my wisdom teeth out and was watching movies i needed a way to keep the ice packs on my face and keep my hands free for knitting, so i used a scarf and tied the packs to my face....my roomates said i looked like a bunny (i tied the scarf on top of my head and it looked like i had rabbit ears)...and i probably did, but i was a happy bunny...plus then you have a scarf for all those cold days and nights!

8  Pennsylvania / Pennsylvania: Southeast / Re: what about the burbs? on: November 09, 2005 02:13:08 PM
thanks for the info allisone! I suppose this means that I'll have to stock up at the Lobby whenever I go home...oh well...you should totally check out ewe and i though--it's awesome (if a little expensive)!!

awww this is totally giving me flashbacks to my mainline college days (Bryn Mawr)... saving up money to go to ewe and i in Bryn Mawr

Hello fellow Mawrtyr! I'm studying at BMC now and am always saving money to go to ewe and I--which means there is always little left for binging at the Campus Center or Lusty Cup...quick question, does anyone know if there is a hobby lobby around here? so few of my friends grew up around here and the ones that did aren't crafters (even then that is really no excuse for not knowing if there is a hobby lobby!), but those of us from the Midwest are dying to find one!!
10  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Re: Show off your hair! on: November 06, 2005 09:17:42 AM
yeah, not much of a change. what do you think? no one ever replies to me on this thread.

I love it!--the second pic is a little blurry though so I can't quite tell, but from what I can see it looks awesome!
