1  FIBER ARTS / Dyeing: Discussion and Questions / Wilton Dye Ratios on: June 21, 2006 06:13:05 PM
I'm all ready to dye roving for the first time! I have been searching around online looking at different techniques and would like to try the Wilton Cake Dyes. Problem is I can't seem to find any exact measurements or some sort of base recipe for this. I know you use vinegar like with Kool-aid but that's it, I would think the ratios might be different. Also if anyone has any tips for getting the best results with any particular colors I'd love to hear those as well...Thanks!

Details of Swap:
I am addicted to portable art supplies! The theme of this swap is to craft eachother things like tote bags with compartments, handmade or decorated sketchbooks, sketchbook cases, and of course fun drawing/painting supplies and/or items to organize them in and such. Also, you could include artist themed things. Not all art mediums are portable I know, but quite a few begin with sketching and writing down ideas. Even those who just like to doodle...have a Sharpie fetish...what-have-you...Please come join the fun. This is for artists of all sorts, not just arteeeests  Tongue

Item Guidlines: Not to be picky, but I'd really like to see everyone in this swap make/recieve some sort of "toting device" to hold all the supplies they'd like to carry (within reason of course). A few medium/small bought/crafted things should round it out to be most excellent!

Flake-Proofing Precautions:
You will notice I have posted a check in date. On that date I will send everyone a PM inquiring of your progress. I will be updating a status list here that will indicate who has checked back in with me. Please do not send your package until your partner has checked in! If you would like to send before the check in date, please PM me first. You will also need to PM your DC# when you send, and acknowledge that you have recieved via PM to both me and your partner.

4  UNITED STATES / Missouri / Crafty Yappy Coffee Shop Girls on: August 20, 2005 08:45:30 PM
Hi All! I am starting a new topic because we have been yapping up a storm on the "St. Louis Crafters Lets Get Together" thread, and it's pretty outdated on the first few pages. Allison (a.k.a. calicoon) and I have been meeting at St. Louis area coffee shops since July 05 to craft and chat. It's such a blast, and we would love more crafters to join us! I will post any future meeting dates here on the front page. Please post here or PM me or calicoon if you are interested in participating!

Last Meeting:
Hartford Coffee  4 p.m. 8/20

Next Meeting:
?Sometime in September?

Happy Crafting,
Autumn Smiley
5  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / Talk About The Swap Process / Swappers: Get Organized Template! on: August 17, 2005 07:36:37 PM
I am seeing concerns from organizers that people who are in a lot of swaps are flaking, I am also seeing swappers stressed out because they have signed up for several swaps and are getting confused....wondering if this is related! I know I would have a hard time keeping my swaps in check if it wasn't for my trusty swap notebook! Here is the template that I fill out for every swap I sign up for:
........
Swap Name
Sign-up Dates -
Send by -
Organizer -

Partner Name -
Partner Info -
(likes/dislikes etc.)

Partner Address -

Date Sent -
DC# -
__Delivered
(check when my partner's package is confirmed delivered)
__Recieved From:
(when I get my stuff, sometimes it's not from the same person I send to so I write their name)

Ideas For Crafts -

( I usually list all my ideas, cross out all items I rule out, and check off the ones I have finished)

..........

So I, fill out all the sections as I get info, and things get modified to accomadate multiple partners and such, but this really works for me to keep track of stuff. It's also nice to be "checking off" all the crafts I am working on as I finish them from my ideas section. I just write all this in my dedicated notebook, but you could easily copy, paste and print of course. I dunno, others probably do this but I just haven't seen it posted anywhere and thought it might be helpful.   Kiss

Craft My Ride Swap

Whilst all of us prance around with our handmade swag, and load our abodes with crafty goodness I think our cars are feeling left out! My idea is to craft things to organize, personalize, and even make more comfortable all that time we spend in our cars.

There are a ton of ideas for crafts on the idea topic here:
http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=43855.0
I recommend taking a gander before you sign up so you can list the kinds of things you would like on your questionnaire

Guidelines:
You could make 1 large item and some medium-smaller ones, or some medium items and a few smaller ones. Try to craft as many of the items as possible, but if it strikes your fancy to buy some small things go for it. Please communicate with your partner! (example: if you want to make them a glovebox organizer, ask them to measure their glovebox...surprises are wonderful, but you also want everything to serve it's purpose!)

7  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Artist on the Go Swap on: August 12, 2005 07:20:44 AM
I am addicted to portable art supplies! I want to host a swap where we could craft eachother thngs like handmade or decorated sketchbooks, sketchbook cases, tote bags with compartments, and of course fun drawing/painting supplies and/or items to organize them in and such. Also, you could include artist themed things. Not all art mediums are portable I know, but I know that quite a few begin with sketching and writing down ideas. This idea could also be translated to a "Crafter on the Go Swap" of course! I would like to keep that seperate, and if the artist one goes well I'd be happy to organize that as well. I am thinking sign-ups, mid-late September. Watcha think?  Smiley

9  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Craft My Ride Swap (Sign ups started!) on: July 17, 2005 06:39:07 AM
Craft my Ride Swap

Whilst all of us prance around with our handmade swag, and load our abodes with crafty goodness I think our cars are feeling left out! My idea is to craft things to organize, personalize, and even make more comfortable all that time we spend in our cars. As a guidline, lets say 2  medium sized handcrafted items and a few small items that can be made or bought. Some ideas:

-Rearview mirror hangy thingies (anyone for some good ol stuffed dice?)
-I was thinking of trying to make an organizer that you could tie to the front seat headrest and would hang down the back of the seat.
-Bumper Stickers ( we might not all be into those, Ill have a preference q on the questionaire)
-Air fresheners
-Seatbelt cover pads

So thats what I got so far, I really think we should share our ideas on this one because the items should be practical. Let me know if yur interested. I'd be startin' sign-up in mid August  Smiley
10  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Totem Animal Swap (no carved poles involved) on: July 13, 2005 03:50:29 PM
Totem Animal Swap
The idea of this swap is to craft items inspired by our partners' totem animals and their attributes. Totem animals are associated with various traditions in Native American, Wiccan, and other cultures from around the world. As for the crafts themselves, try to keep them as earthy and organic looking as possible. Keep your representations of animals either realistic, or primitive, rather than cutesy and cartooney.

So, on the questionnaire you would probably be asked what you feel your main totem animal is, and why you relate to it so well. Also, if there are any secondary totems that you feel connected to from time to time.

We will be crafting in groups of 3-4, putting together a package to send to each of our partners. Sign-ups will start August 22nd.
