31  Re: Where to get tiny glass cake/cookie stands in Polymer Clay: Discussion and Questions by Rachelslittlethings on: August 30, 2012 01:54:56 PM
I searched high and low and finally settled on these 2 pieces. They won't be exact as I wanted but the scale is so small I'm sure it won't be too noticeable. I was concerned that the small stand with the smallest cake on it. It's slightly taller than the stand with the macaroons. But I just couldn't find something tall enough. Sad

40mm diameter

a little under 30mm diameter

And I'm going to make the flat silver plate out of a button or something I find. Maybe clay covered in silver paint.

Both ebay purchases.

32  "Put a bird on it" wedding cake in Polymer Clay: Completed Projects by Rachelslittlethings on: August 20, 2012 01:26:40 PM
I actually searched "wedding cake with birds" and found this cake, saved it on my computer, then soon after realized it belonged to a couple I knew.

Real cake

This is on my favorite ones I've done so far. I loved painting the birds after it was baked. The "twigs" are super thin wire painted brown. The twigs on the bases are just clay snakes rolled super thin.

33  Where to get tiny glass cake/cookie stands in Polymer Clay: Discussion and Questions by Rachelslittlethings on: August 19, 2012 08:17:34 PM
I have an order for these Swedish princess weddings cakes. Unfortunately I don't do glassware and I need to pick up 2 pieces as you can see. I need to be small. No larger than 1 inch or 1& 2/3 inch in diameter and preferably under $15. Any places you know of?

34  My latest mini cake in Polymer Clay: Completed Projects by Rachelslittlethings on: August 19, 2012 03:27:26 PM

I haven't done one of these in months. This cake has been on my computer for like a year now and I've been meaning to make it. My first time doing zig zags. I carefully measured them and cut them with an x-acto knife but they still didn't turn out as precise as the pic. I painted them with the gold powder and glaze technique. My favorite part is the top tier of flowers. The ribbon isn't the exact shade but it was the closest shade I found at Jo-Anne's.

35  World's tiniest pug in Polymer Clay: Completed Projects by Rachelslittlethings on: July 29, 2012 01:13:53 AM
My roommate has a pug and they have a hilarious way if sitting. I took pics of the dog and used him as my model. This is super tiny cause it's sitting on a penny. I carved it from 1 piece of clay with x-actos knifes, a tooth pick and needles then painted details with acrylic paint.

36  Pink & peach ombre cake in Polymer Clay: Completed Projects by Rachelslittlethings on: July 28, 2012 09:12:26 PM
Hi all. I haven't posted anything in a while. I've been busy with a move and freelance makeup jobs. Grin I hadn't made anything in like 2 months but my friend's birthday was coming up and I made her this little birthday cake complete with a little rose.

I have some free time now and I'm looking forward to making some new creations.

37  Fruit and flowers layer cake in Polymer Clay: Completed Projects by Rachelslittlethings on: May 26, 2012 09:50:07 PM

Love this one so much. Been looking at this cake for months and I had to make it. I did the layers then added a thin white layer in between, then afterwards I mixed up some of that "whipped cream" concoction and used a toothpick to apply it. Love how realistic it turned out. I mixed the berry colors with a bit of translucent clay to give them that dimensional look, and painted them with glaze. Love how those look.

38  Seafoam green, silver balls, pink flowers in Polymer Clay: Completed Projects by Rachelslittlethings on: May 26, 2012 09:39:41 PM

This is just like that purple one I've made twice. Mixed a seafoam green shade, and did multi colored flowers. Then put silver microbeads on the pleats.

39  Tiny blue French wedding cake in Polymer Clay: Completed Projects by Rachelslittlethings on: May 20, 2012 04:40:34 PM
I love these French wedding cakes so much cause of their gold details. I get to use that gold lacquer I love so much. This is my third French cake. It took me about 12 hours over 2 days. No new techniques I used to report. I'm not quite happy how the fleur de lis turned out. I measure and drew a sketch on paper and used that as a template. I need to find a better way. I've attempted them for 2 cakes now and they never turn out nice. It measures just over 3 inches tall and little less than 2 inches wide at the base.

40  Tiny French cake version 2.0 in Polymer Clay: Completed Projects by Rachelslittlethings on: May 10, 2012 07:43:42 PM
I got a custom request for this one. I finished in record time, only took 9.5 hours of sculpting and 30 mins baking. I really powered through this one. Didn't use any new techniques on this one, just the gold powder varnish. I wish I would have made the blue a little less teal and more white, but what can I do now Wink Also the blue ribbon isn't the exact shade but that's all I found at Michaels. Maybe I can paint the ribbon with some acrylic paint. Upon looking at these pictures I'm going to retouch the hot pink tips on the flowers.
