21  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Craft This Tote Round 2! - Gallery! on: February 03, 2012 06:18:26 AM
I received a lovely package from thefourthwall! She was a wonderful swap a long partner! Tomorrow I should be receiving from my offical partner Solitary Cricket.

Here is a picture of everything... My lovely tote, a print I never would have bought, but LOVE on this tote! So happy with the print! I'm going to be the envy of Tader Joe's! And lovely, fun button elastic bracelet, and handmade notecards! I don't know how you knew, but I LOVE sending notecards to my friends!

Thank you so much for swapping along with me 4thwall!!! I had such a blast! We are in a mug rug swap as well and I can't wait to see what you post there! Thanks for being an awesome partner!

Yays! I'm glad you liked it; you were a great swap partner and so kind to do a swapalong so I could participate in this awesome swap! Thanks!
22  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Steampunk Stationary on: February 01, 2012 04:52:01 PM
I made a set of steampunk stationary for my friend's birthday.

I made a couple sets but forgot to take a picture of the steampunk one by itself while tied up.  And I already gave it away...

C&C welcome!

These are lovely.  I like how you trimmed/punched/shaped the corners.  Are you going to make envelopes or are you able to find some that fit them already?

I received from CraftyMamaBee on Monday night, but I haven't been home with sunlight (or brain power) to take pictures until now.  CraftyMamaBee, totally rocked it--this package is full of win for me!!!

First, the whole lot.

My favorite color is green--and the tree with red buttons is awesome!

If the bag looks not flat, its because I have some school stuff in it--I took it to teach earlier this afternoon.

Close-up of the tree...

Then a journal cover with the most delicious apple, pear fabric that I don't think I would have ever picked up myself, but I absolutely love!

And then two little cases, again with fantastic fabric--I've put my ipod in one and my phone in the other.  I'm excited for these because I normally throw my gadgets loose in whatever purse or bag I've got--not smart!

Don't you love the red button? I do!

Thanks so much CraftyMamaBee--you nailed it!  Now I hope you like what I made half as well as I like what you made!

I'd assume that it is from the works of Jules Verne and HG Wells. Also probably came from the Cuthulu mythology too. I had a friend in my metals class make a steampunk Cuthulu mask so he did a decent amount of research into it. Most websites that talk about steampunk literature point to Wells, Verne, and Shelley as the standards. So the undersea ideas come from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and so forth...

Hope my rambling may have cleared some of that up! haha

Thanks My_RubySlippers and bookstorebabe!  Verne and Lovecraft/Cthulhu make sense... Is that Mary Shelley/Frankenstein?  I hadn't thought about that as part of the steampunk movement, but now that you say it, I can see it. Interesting-er and interesting-er. Smiley

Still brainstorming for partner...

My oh my!!!! So much more already!!!! I don't know where to begin to express my love of everything!!! Everyone is doing such great work!!! My partner and shadow partner both received today!!! Fingers crossed they love their stuff!!!

YES!!!!  I got home late last night and it was 10:30 before I remembered that I should check the mail, and I had an awesome package from CraftyMamaBee!  I had to leave eeeeearly this morning, so if I can get some decent pics when I get home, I'll post 'em tonight.  I love everything though.  I even started using some of it today, so there'll be "action" shots!

Also, can somebody explain to me the origin for the octopus in steampunk? I'm unclear on how it connects, but I see it in a fair amount of stuff.

Ooo, Bakeneko, I'm excited!  I've got an idea,  but it involves a new technique for me, so I'm a bit nervous.
