2  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Dia de los muertos mini shrine box on: September 17, 2010 10:38:50 AM
I want to know if anyone would be interested in doing a swap like this. We'd create a themed shrine box (no larger than one side of an altoids tin) for our partner based on some ideas they give us. It doesn't necessarily need to be dia de los muertos theme, but they will be sent out for a ship date around the holiday, and should be festive in some way. Additionally, we will make 2 small items on a dia de los muertos theme to go along with it, such as sugar skulls, altar items, papel picado, calaveras figurines, etc. I'm sure the dia de los muertos theme has been done and done, but I'm thinking it might be fun to make a shrine box for our partners in time for the holiday.
3  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Completed Projects / permanent decoration for my room-dia de los muertos ofrenda/memorial (pic heavy) on: June 01, 2010 12:55:16 PM
Heya,
When I moved back to my parents' house I was determined to redecorate my room to be less high school looking (I'm 25, haha). I'm obsessed with La Dia de los Muertos/Day of the Dead, and decided to put together a permanent altar/ofrenda memorial to loved ones in my family that have died. At first I was obsessed with working at it, but eventually that wore off and I just continued to add to it rather slowly for about a year. I'm finally content with how it looks and want to show it off! I had made sugar skulls, but they started to rot, so those are no longer there...

this is the complete view--sorry my humidifier got in it, haha!

another view without the candles lit

I bought the patch and the crocheted flowers on etsy...I wish I remembered the seller's names.

a better view of the patch

the tippity top with a frida kahlo portrait (my favorite mexican artist homage) and a calavera sculpture made by a mexican artisan that I purchased at a local imports store

a wooden skeleton and a picture of my late grandmother

"los esposos" cut-out designed by me, and a picture of my late uncle underwater

my uncle. Also a good picture of the candle holders I purchased from that same imports store. I believe they're from Peru.

a really great picture I found of my late grandfather

the other skull cut-out I made

Thanks for looking!

4  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / funky faux fur, places to buy this type of fabric online? on: March 10, 2010 06:37:06 PM
google is seriously failing me today.
I'm looking for reputable fabric stores that sell funky faux fur, either in bright colors or unnatural patterns (ie not animal printed, but with like...a pink and white pattern or something like that)
any suggestions?

6  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / sugar skulls on: January 29, 2009 07:51:09 PM
These are inedible so they definitely don't belong in the food forum, they're sealed with sealant! These are for my year long dia de los muertos ofrenda Smiley

7  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / papel picado on: January 11, 2009 02:17:51 AM
