My resolution this year is to try and get organized.  I suffer from a major case of packrat-itis so there's stuff everywhere you look.  You'll see in the "before" picture that I've kind of started with a box system but there are piles and piles of bills and statements and old receipts that need a good home so that's where the filing cabinet comes in.

I'd been searching on craigslist for one for a while but hadn't seen exactly what I wanted.  I'm a firm believer in dumpster diving (which, btw, contributes enormously to my disease!!) and as I was coming home from work the other day I saw 2 perfectly good cabinets so I dove away!!!

I only took one and that was enough...do you guys know how hard it is to fish one of those heavy things out of a dumpster?Huh

Anyway, I gave it a good cleaning and a few Ikea napkins later...here's the result!!

This is how it looked before

And after...

I made this for a friend of mine a few months ago and I haven't had a chance to take pictures until now.
A few of his clothes I bought ready made but I hand stitched his coat and made all of his "props"
I decided to just post a link to my flickr because there are so many pictures.
Enjoy!!

4  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Discussion and Questions / PROJECT 365 - A PAINTING A DAY! on: September 01, 2006 09:42:29 PM
David Lloyd is a true artist, a real genius...go see for yourself!!

"Following in the footsteps of the day painters, I offer my own version of this uniquely interactive approach to our discipline. I look forward to the challenge of producing a painting a day." -David Lloyd ("borrowed" from his blog)

I love this idea and thought some of you might like it, too!

And while you're at it...look at the rest of his art, it's unbelievable!

I bought this print for about $1.50.  It's a reproduction of a vintage advertising art poster for "Pears Soap" with a little girl climbing into the bath tub with her Pears Soap.

BEFORE

AFTER

Nothing like lighting up...taking your clothes off...and enjoying a near-religious experience (...or so I've been told!! Wink)

And a few details:

6  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / FIRST SOLO ART SHOW...any ideas for congrats gift?? on: April 29, 2006 05:26:31 PM
My very good friend David is having his first Solo Show in New Orleans in May and I wanted to make him something to say "way to go", "you did it", "congrats" but...is that even appropriate??
I thought of just sending flowers to the gallery but I don't know if that's allowed or if it would be weird so I figured i could make him something very small for him to bring with him but i have no idea what i could make!
I was thinking maybe something hidden inside a pack of cigarettes since he smokes and he'll sure have that with him.  Maybe just a simple note so when he goes to get a cig he can read it on the lid??
I'm usually pretty good and can come up with something but for some reason this one's giving me sooooo much trouble.

should i even bother or will it just be tacky??  i don't know what the proper etiquette is for this sort of thing?

PLEASE HELP!!

8  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Party Planning / ALASKA OR RUSH THEMED PARTY FOR TWO! on: July 30, 2005 09:16:05 PM
PLEASE, PLEASE HELP...I'm stuck for ideas!  My friend's birthday is coming up and I don't know what to do.  I've already got several presents so I don't have much money left for the actual celebration but I still want to do something special.

He loves RUSH (the Canadian group) so his presents are all RUSH related.  His favorite LP is Hemispheres so I bought him a few different issues of that same one (red vinyl, picture disc and gatefold).  I also managed to get an autographed programme from the Hemispheres tour and a few other things.  I'm pretty sure he'll like all these but I wanted to present them in a cool way!

My initial idea was to do a "Concert at Home" but I don't know if that will give the gift away too easily and I don't really know how to pull it off!

So here's where Alaska comes in...he's travelled there a few times and simply adores the place so I was thinking about turning my apartment in "Alaska for a day" but apart form turning the A/C to freezing cold I don't know what else to do.  Any ideas??  I also thought about getting a bunch of white fabric and putting it everywhere as if it were snow.

I would probably send him an invitation that looked like a plane ticket:
Gate:  My apartment #
Destination: Unknown
Time: The time I expect him to be there
Meals served:  Lunch

Can anyone help and share your awesome ideas??

BTW...the birthday is Aug 31 but I will be doing this the first week of September!
9  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / MY VERY FIRST BOOK PURSE on: May 28, 2005 07:33:03 PM
I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this or if it should go in the reconstructed area  but hopefully it's ok!

So...I finished my first book purse tonight!  I like how it turned out but I really hope it holds up well since I got lazy and did it all with a glue gun  Embarrassed

I'll wear it for work tomorrow and test it out!  Wink

10  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Screen Printing: Completed Projects / T-SHIRT HELL INSPIRED - X RATED (MAYBE??) on: May 17, 2005 09:45:56 PM
I SAW A T-SHIRT ON TSHIRTHELL.COM (I had a link here before but they don't think they sell it anymore because my link wasn't working) AND I WANTED IT BUT DIDN'T REALLY WANT TO PAY $18 PLUS S&H FOR IT SO...I CAME UP WITH THIS THONG INSTEAD.  I PAINTED IT WITH GLOW IN THE DARK ACRYLIC PAINT SO IT WOULDN'T BE TOO OBVIOUS BUT WOULD BE A FUN SURPRISE ONCE THE LIGHTS ARE OUT  Wink

http://photos1.blogger.com/img/208/5046/640/IMAG0230.jpg
THIS IS THE PICTURE WITH THE LIGHTS ON

http://photos1.blogger.com/img/208/5046/640/IMAG0229.jpg
AND HERE IT IS WITH THE LIGHTS OUT

IT WAS REALLY HARD TO GET A GOOD PICTURE BUT IT READS "IF YOU'RE ALREADY THIS CLOSE WHY DON'T YOU JUST EAT ME OUT?"

HOPE I DIDN'T OFFEND ANYONE WITH THIS BUT I DID WARN YOU ON THE SUBJECT!
