1  FIBER ARTS / Dyeing: Completed Projects / Autumn-y yarn dyeing... first try w/ the dye! on: September 14, 2006 05:40:39 PM
I got bored tonight and decided to try dyeing. I'd bought some Wilton's icing dyes specifically for this purpose, but hadn't yet bought any natural-colored wool - however, I did have a ball of Plymouth Yarn Suri Merino in a very nice light heather grey, so I decided to attack it and see what some nice muted green/red/orange/gold tones would look like.

The result:

If I did this same colorway again, I think I'd use a deeper red (not "Christmas red"), and nix the "gold" that turned greenish. But I still think it looks nice. Now the hard part... what to do with it?
2  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Knitty's Fetching fingerless gloves! on: September 07, 2006 06:33:55 PM
Yay! It took me a little longer than a weekend, thanks to work and school and all of that annoying stuff getting in the way of knitting, but they really didn't take that long at all in the end. I love these so much because I'm a photographer and work outside quite a bit, and here in north Florida it does actually get pretty chilly sometimes! So these will let me use my camera unhindered while keeping my wrists and hands warm.

They're done in Plymouth Yarn Suri Merino with a wee bit of accent in Plymouth Yarn Royal Bamboo.

I really might end up making a few more pairs... they're so quick and easy! This was my first time using DPNs and my first time cabling, and it's such a good first project for both...
3  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Black/grey/red colorways in really nice sock yarn? Anyone seen any? on: September 06, 2006 11:07:09 PM
Okay, so I'm about to embark on a project for a friend... the Hooray for Me gloves, actually... and she's a big fan of black/grey/red color combinations. I was thinking of just doing them in black Gloss from Knitpicks, but I love stripes too, and would love to find some really nice striping sock yarn in some combination of black/grey/red that I could try. Has anyone seen a colorway like this anywhere? Even just in shades of black and grey, perhaps? Any heads-ups would be super appreciated. Thanks so much!!

I hadn't knitted anything in about a year, so it felt really nice to get something done again. Now I'm working on Knitty's Fetching fingerless gloves in this utterly fantastic alpaca/merino blend... hopefully will have them done within the next week or so, they're not coming along quite as quickly as I'd hoped for only being 45 stitches around, but... I'm trying! Lots of episodes of Six Feet Under is sure helping. :-D
