Ollie and I wanted to share our mac and cheese with you all before we take it to our first Thanksgiving meal (we do my family in the afternoon and my in-laws in the evening... SO MUCH FOOD).

We posted the whole recipe (with multiple photos) on the blog:

Ollie and I went to VA Comicon today in Richmond. We didn't spend a ton of time there and I needed to make sure I met Ivy Doomkitty (amazing cosplayer) and we did a little shopping, so this is the best photo I've got:

On the blog (including an explanation of why there isn't a photo of me as Daryl Dixon today):

You guys are making me feel like a slacker, but I have a good excuse! Right after I finished the round of antibiotics for whatever that first ICK was that I had, my son got strep and of course shared it with me. Tongue

Sharing is caring, right?  Cheesy But really, I hope you feel better! Strep is no fun.  Undecided

Ollie is my new little library helper. Yesterday, he helped me set up for my citation workshop for students, and he came to book club last night!

Writing color-coded citation examples for the students.

Playing a game with the book club.

Ollie and I had a free moment yesterday to move some furniture, so since we opened up the spot for the Christmas tree, we put it up!

Anana has arrived! He showed up just in time to watch Alabama trounce Mississippi State. Smiley

I'm glad he got to watch the game! I'm an Alabama alum, but I have no cable so I have to settle for watching the score change in the little "trending" box on the side of Facebook.

In the meantime, Ollie helped me work on my next cosplay today: Daryl Dixon! I swear I chose to cosplay him BEFORE I knew I'd be hosting an LV from outside of Atlanta  Grin

(That's the crossbow for my Daryl Dixon crossplay for VA Comicon next weekend!)

Ollie has arrived in Virginia Beach! I was making dinner when I opened the package, so Ollie jumped right in and started helping!

17  Harley Quinn (Arkham Knight version) - Halloween 2015! in CHALLENGE 110 ENTRIES by Alexampersandra on: November 02, 2015 09:05:58 AM
My best friend got me into cosplay a year ago, and she's been making all my cosplay costumes so far. So, for this Halloween, I decided I needed to make my first one all for myself.

And reference photos for anyone who isn't familiar (pulled from the game's "Play as Harley Quinn" trailer):

There's a lot to it, so let's go piece by piece:

- The wig was ordered from Arda Wigs, and I dyed it myself (hand-Sharpied). (Read more about the wig here: http://alexampersandra.blogspot.com/2015/10/harley-quinn-wig.html.)
- The bat was a children's foam bat from Walmart that I painted (and distressed with silver Sharpie). (Read more about the bat here: http://alexampersandra.blogspot.com/2015/10/distressed-bat.html)
- The only clothing that was purchased was the white shrug (I ran out of time to sew one) and the leggings (one pair black, one pair red, cut and put together, plus I painted the diamonds and added the studs).
- I sewed the bra, corset cover, skirt, and the arms.
- I painted the left boot red and bought new shoelaces. I also put studs on the back of the boots, but they aren't in any of my photos.
- And my favorite part is the leather harness. It's real leather (belt blanks from Tandy Leather) and I sewed the pieces together with a sewing awl, added the O-rings and the studs, and snaps. The arm bands have elastic on the inside holding them together. (Read more about the harness here: http://alexampersandra.blogspot.com/2015/10/harness-weekend.html and the prototype here: http://alexampersandra.blogspot.com/2015/09/prototype-harleys-harness.html)
- The laughing gas bomb is also one of my favorite parts. I painted a Splash Out (remember those? You put a water balloon in it, turn the timer, and play Hot Potato with it until the timer's out and it pops the balloon and you get splashed!) and filled it with pink EL wire and vellum paper. (Read more about the laughing gas bomb here: http://alexampersandra.blogspot.com/2015/10/finishing-harley-quinns-bomb.html)

Hope you enjoy! I certainly had fun being Harley!

Ready for a new LV here in Virginia Beach! I don't have Anana at work with me today, but my profile picture is him with me last year at work for Halloween.

But here's another photo (used a couple times before for this pre-swap introduction, I believe):

Anana is home, safe and sound... and SURROUNDED by goodies!

And Smeddley was worried about not doing ENOUGH! I'd like to call particular attention to the Pi mug rug (my first mug rug, iirc) and the beautiful rainbow silk. Also, his cute little eyepatch he's still wearing from Talk Like A Pirate Day  Grin I also love that Smeddley sent a book from the local library's Friends sale (barely visible in the bottom left corner)! (I read Tangerine for my young adult literature class in college and I enjoyed it... and now I have a copy for myself! Plus it benefited a library, so wins all around!)

Thank you x1000000000 Smeddley! And I'm glad you don't have the plague anymore  Cheesy

Poe is learning about hurricane preparedness, since we really can't be sure whether Joaquin is going to pay us a visit. CNN is reporting from here, among others, so they seem to think we'll get it pretty bad, but I am fairly sure we'll be fine. We stocked up on the essentials anyway, just in case.
