191  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Re: laptop bag? on: September 10, 2005 10:18:46 AM
I just bought some really cool fabric last night from Joann's.  It's a limey green and black and the great part is that it has a plastic coating on the back so it should be pretty sturdy.  That might be an option for you...that way you can possibly skip the interfacing and also have a little water proofing.  I'm not sure of the name of the fabric as I bought it as a remnant (I love that bin!) but they could probably find something similar for you.  I'm not sure how my machine will take the coating...may be more of a pain than it's worth but I just have to try!

Another idea for the strap is to cover the nylon webbing with your choice of fabric...that way you would get a really sturdy strap but maintain the style of your bag, all in one shot.

192  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Tips for the corners of the messenger with gusset? on: September 10, 2005 09:37:55 AM
I just made a messenger bag with gussets...it worked but the corners were SO difficult!  I sewed the sides and bottom together and then added the front and back pieces.  On the tutorial it shows that you 'split' your seam a bit on the gusset to fit it onto the front/back but then I'm not sure where to stitch exactly. I kept ending up with either a VERY round corner or a corner that wasn't completely stitched together.

Does anyone have any tips?
