21  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Stenciling: Completed Projects / Terminus ball cap on: March 10, 2016 01:54:21 PM
Stenciled this as a gift for my hubby.  We are both big fans of The Walking Dead!  I was pretty pleased with how it came out, especially since I'd never done a hat before.  The curve kind of ... throws a curve at ya!  Ha!

22  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Button Necklaces- mini tutorial on: January 25, 2016 07:09:15 PM
I made these as raffle prizes for the Winter Nerd Battles.  They are really easy to do!

Choose some buttons that you feel complement each other and arrange them on some felt of a complimentary color.  After you've made a configuration you like, cut the shanks off the buttons that will be on the bottom.  Sometimes it works best to leave one or two with the shanks still attached, when they are kind of sitting up on top of other buttons.  Definitely leave the shanks attached to the ones on either side of top of the arrangement, and cut a slit in the felt where the shanks on those two buttons will poke through.  Glue the buttons on in the arrangement you've chosen (I use E6000) and leave it overnight to set.

After the glue is set, cut the excess felt away from the design.

Use jump rings to attach your chain to the shanks that poke through the felt.

Add your clasp and wear your creation!

24  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Happy Spouse plaque on: December 03, 2015 08:21:07 AM
I made this for my honey for Christmas and I'm really pleased with how it turned out!

This is our answer to the motto, "happy wife, happy life".  I think there's more to it than that!  When my hubby and I are working to make each other happy, everyone wins.

25  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Wherein B1K makes a baby quilt, and discovers that binding sucks on: September 03, 2015 09:44:15 PM
My Canadian bestie is about to have a little boy and so I determined that I should make her a quilt.  I chose a cute cotton top and a minky backing, and a satin binding.  I was a bit nervous about the binding part, so I watched a bunch of tutorials that made it look pretty simple, so I was excited to try these new (well, new to ME) binding methods.

Here's the quilt cut out, marked and pin-basted:

A close up of the cute print (and some apparently wonky quilting):

The final result:

Notice that I'm only displaying a corner of the minky backing.  Did I mention that binding sucks?  Maybe it's just MY binding... Roll Eyes

Perhaps I just need more practice to perfect my binding skills, but it's not going to happen today.  Being as this little guy could come any day, I'm calling it done and getting it in the mail asap.
26  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Nerdy book pendant on: August 27, 2015 12:10:20 PM
The Summer Nerd Games are drawing to a close, and I made this necklace as a prize for my team (Wordy) to give to a member of another team who helped us out with points by crafting a Wordy Team Spirit prompt this summer (random drawing).

It has a leather cover, and the pages inside are blank.  This could absolutely be used as a teeny notebook for reminders, notes, phone numbers... what have you.

Even though the Games are almost over for the Summer, the Fall Nerd Battles will be gearing up soon!  So feel free to check out the Nerd Games thread to see how we roll and join your favorite Nerd team for the next season!   Grin

Making a start on some Christmas crafting.

28  Calls for Swap Angels / Swap Angel Archive / Up to THREE angels needed for miniature item swap - FOUND! on: July 29, 2015 11:14:33 AM
I need 3 (yep, 3!!) angels for the Setting the Miniature Scene swap.  In this swap, participants could choose one or two partners, so 2 of those 3 packages could be done by one person, if that person feels that they could pull it off in the 2 week crafting period.

Swap description: Who doesn't love tiny things?  Seriously, how cute are they?

This swap will be an overload of cute!

You will send 5 tiny items to your partner, the kinds of things they would use to set a scene.  It could be dishes, baskets, flowers, furniture items, pillows, tiny art, light fixtures, rugs, animals, books... you get the idea.  At least 3 of those tiny items must be crafted. Default scale will be 1:12 unless otherwise agreed upon between partners.

One of these packages will be going to Africa.  The other two (the ones that could be taken by a single person if they want) would be going to the US and to Canada.  The good news is that being miniatures, these projects could be very small and light, which means relatively inexpensive shipping.  Cheesy

PM me for more info if you are interested!

Angels found!

geekgirl1000100 will be sending to suereal
tendstowardschaos will be sending to elderflower
kbrison will be sending to gozer
29  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Four seasons of fairy tales on: July 08, 2015 12:24:00 PM

How about a fairy tale swap with a bit of a twist?

We each craft 4 items, one that is inspired by each of the 4 seasons.  We're talking 4 smalls, here, so nothing debilitating.

We're thinking signups starting the 19th, thru the 1st and send outs on August 24th-ish.

Gozer and I would be delighted to organize/co-organize.

And we're happy to hear suggestions too.
