191  Re: PILLOWFIGHT!!! (pic heavy) in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by bunny1kenobi on: December 18, 2011 07:45:48 AM
i saw these on pinterest and fell in love. how did you make them?

Since I don't know how sewing savvy you are, I'm really simplifying this.  Forgive me if you already figured half of this out!

I took some scrap fabric (remnants of a sheet, actually) and freehand painted the sword, axe, and nunchucks.  I found a grenade I liked on google images and used homemade freezer paper to stencil them.

After they were dry, I placed the painted pieces atop more scrap fabric and cut around them using my painted images as a guide and leaving a fairly generous seam allowance.

Then I sewed them (right sides together), leaving an unstitched section a couple inches long.  For the nunchucks, I took some stout cord and sandwiched it between the front and back with one end slightly protruding from the pointed tip and the other end coming out of the space I intended to leave open.

I clipped the seams around corners and curves and in indented areas for a smoother look. Like so:

After stitching, I turned them right side out using the unstitched sections, and stuffed generously with fiberfill.  The edges of the open area automatically curl inward.  I pinned the curled edges together and stitched along it to close each pillow.

Hope that explains it adequately... if you have any questions, let me know!

192  freezer paper Christmas goodies! (a few pics) in Stenciling: Completed Projects by bunny1kenobi on: December 18, 2011 05:47:42 AM
I made some shirts for my kiddos for Christmas!

This one is for my daughter:

So is this one.  She LOOOOOOVES giraffes!  I did the background swirls with bleach and a Q-tip, then stenciled on the basic shape of the giraffe.  The details were done freehand.

This one is for my son - one of his favorite bands:

193  PILLOWFIGHT!!! (pic heavy) in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by bunny1kenobi on: December 18, 2011 05:40:35 AM
My two boys are always play fighting, but pillowfighting is a fave around our house!  So for Christmas, I made them some weapons!

These are supposed to be nunchucks... can you tell?  Wink

I considered adding a couple beans to these to give them weight - they aren't going to go very far being thrown... but then I thought if they get to lobbing them hard at each other, that could be baaad...  besides, they're already wrapped for Christmas, so if it turns out I need to do some adjustments, I'll add some rice or something later.

And all together in their drawstring bag:

194  Superhero scarf in Knitting: Completed Projects by bunny1kenobi on: December 14, 2011 05:00:05 PM
Ok, this is quite a tale...

I was looking into angeling for someone, and while I was waiting on the organizer to get back to me (someone else got the job, bummer), I started looking at what I could craft.  On the young lady's pinterest was a pic of this scarf and she LOOOOOVED it!  Well, looking at it, I realized that several kids at my house would love it too, and one of them is NOTORIOUSLY tough to shop for.

Sooo... I followed the pinterest links and found this pattern on ravelry

http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/justice-league-scarf

I'm a novice knitter at best, so I was intimidated, to say the least.  But I checked out some video tutorials on youtube, scrounged up some yarn and went to town.  I made a LOT of mistakes, especially on the Green Lantern panel 'cause it was my first one (thankfully, my son is pretty forgiving).

It's knitted in Fair Isle, and I adjusted the pattern somewhat so that when the scarf is around his neck, the logos on the ends will be right side up.  I also widened the scarf somewhat, thinking it would be too narrow for his taste otherwise, and I think if I were to do this again (I have another son clamoring for one as well), I would just stick with the width on the original pattern.

couldn't fit the whole length in one photo

195  for the "apple" of my eye in Stenciling: Completed Projects by bunny1kenobi on: November 30, 2011 06:33:38 PM
My hubby adores all things apple (as in Steve Jobs, as opposed to the actual fruit  Wink), so this is one of his gifts from me this year: a custom made apple logo t-shirt.  Wish I had a better camera!

It's hard to tell, but there's also a very light splatter pattern overall... I got a little bit of the lighter paint on the shirt where it didn't belong, so I had to find an opportunity for embellishment.

196  magnetic Thanksgiving placecards in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by bunny1kenobi on: November 28, 2011 06:54:13 AM
I made these for Thanksgiving dinner:

Each of them has a magnet on the back, so everyone could save theirs as a reminder of what they are grateful for (but I have no idea if anyone saved theirs-  Grin).  I had to make 20 of them.  Here's a nice, blurry pic of a group of them:

197  magnetic message board in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by bunny1kenobi on: November 28, 2011 06:50:42 AM
spray painted the back of a cookie sheet, then I covered an empty soup can with fabric for a pencil holder.  I added magnets to the back of the can and a notebook, and also made some with coordinating paper (laminated, of course).  I glued a large split ring to the back with E6000, which I partially covered with felt so as not to mark up the wall, and gave this to my brother and sis in law for Christmas.  (Yeah. it's early. they live out of state & we saw them for Thanksgiving, sooo....)

apologies for the blurry pic

199  wire wrap and heart necklace for Christmas in Beads: Completed Projects by bunny1kenobi on: November 28, 2011 06:38:04 AM
I made this for my sis-in law for Christmas... she has a thing about hearts. (Don't know if you can tell - the little turquoise beads are hearts, too)

200  freezer paper for Christmas in Stenciling: Completed Projects by bunny1kenobi on: November 28, 2011 06:32:08 AM
Ok, the latest installment (hope you guys aren't getting sick of seeing all this painted stuff!  Grin)

This is a t-shirt I did for my nephew:

I sewed and painted pillowcases for my brother and sister in law, that were supposed to look something like this:

They sleep opposite of this couple, so I had to adjust somewhat.... here's my version:
