171  Button Necklaces- mini tutorial in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by bunny1kenobi on: January 25, 2016 07:09:15 PM
I made these as raffle prizes for the Winter Nerd Battles.  They are really easy to do!

Choose some buttons that you feel complement each other and arrange them on some felt of a complimentary color.  After you've made a configuration you like, cut the shanks off the buttons that will be on the bottom.  Sometimes it works best to leave one or two with the shanks still attached, when they are kind of sitting up on top of other buttons.  Definitely leave the shanks attached to the ones on either side of top of the arrangement, and cut a slit in the felt where the shanks on those two buttons will poke through.  Glue the buttons on in the arrangement you've chosen (I use E6000) and leave it overnight to set.

After the glue is set, cut the excess felt away from the design.

Use jump rings to attach your chain to the shanks that poke through the felt.

Add your clasp and wear your creation!

I made these as raffle prizes for the Winter Nerd Games.  They are totally from my stash (yep, I've had the lockets languishing for a while). I made the teeny books and the dagger.

Wizard of Oz

Holy cow, calliemae has been BUSY!  Go, Team Wordy! PS I'm a big fan of The Little Match Girl, too.

Studio, that quilt is going to be EPIC!  I would be so totally excited!

Smeddley, the goal book is awesome.  Totally awesome!

CraftADDchick, I like your inchie idea.  I may have to do that!

SBC, digging the RRH Hello Kitty- cuteness overload is right!  And the crocheted food -- WOW!!  I would have loved a set like that as a kid, too.  Beautiful work!

I have a little to add as well...

Project Name: Wizard of Oz pendant
Project Link:
Brief Description: This will be a raffle prize!  Yay, I started raffle prizes early this season, whereas last season I just squeaked in under the wire.  Wink  This pendant features a miniature Wizard of Oz book and 12 "emeralds".  Of course, 12 is a multiple of three.

Fun Fact about the Wizard of Oz (and this is just copied and pasted, folks, I'm not this smart): Lyman Frank Baum wrote 14 books that are considered part of the series of royal histories of the lands and peoples of Oz. The books that he contributed to the series are entitled:
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz [aka The Wizard of Oz], 1900
The Marvelous Land of Oz, 1904
Ozma of Oz, 1907
Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz, 1908
The Road to Oz, 1909
The Emerald City, 1910
The Patchwork Girl of Oz, 1913
Tik-Tok of Oz, 1914
The Scarecrow of Oz, 1915
Rinkitink in Oz, 1916
The Lost Princess of Oz, 1917
The Tin Woodsman of Oz, 1918
The Magic of Oz, 1919, posthumously published
Glinda of Oz, 1920, posthumously published.
Baum also wrote The Woggle-Bug Book, 1905; and Little Wizard Stories of Oz, 1913. But they aren't considered part of the Famous Forty Royal Histories that mainly were published by Reilly & Lee.

I was fortunate that my school library had all of these titles and I believe I have read all of these, except the Little Wizard Stories.  I don't remember a whole lot coz I was in 5th grade... maybe it's time for another visit!  Grin  Thank you, Google!

Project Name: Game of Thrones pendant
Brief Description: This is a raffle prize!  When I made this, I honestly wasn't sure what prompt it was going to fit, until later....  Making the miniature book for the pendant was pretty straightforward but the dagger... there's where the "determination" factor comes in to play for this prompt. First I tried making it with the foil tape and a toggle from a clasp-- nope. Then tried making a twisted wire grip.  Three times.  Nope, nope, nope.  Finally in desperation I opened my charm box, thinking maybe I'd have a crown in there.  I had 2 different ones, neither of which were small enough to create the desired effect.  Then my eye fell upon a key charm and I wondered if I could cut certain parts off of it to create the handle I needed. I figured it was a long shot, but it worked! Hooray! And it was all from my stash!  It Was On Clearance

Digging those pants, pishaw.  Someday I might actually be slim enough to wear something like that again... *wistful sigh*

Project Name: Gold(ilocks) infinity scarf

Brief Description: My cousin works for an airline and is facilitating a visit from my bestie Gozer next month!   Grin Grin Grin  So freaking exciting, coz we rarely get to hang out, living on opposite sides of the country and all.  Anyway, this will be part of a thank you package I'm sending my cousin.  Her fave color is mustard and this photo shows the yarn as MUCH yellower than it is in real life.

Love the fabric on your lunch bag!  And I agree - nice save!

My cousin works for an airline and is facilitating a visit from my craftster bestie next month!  I'm so excited, I'm making her some thank you gifts!  This is her fave color, mustard.  It is more muted in real life than this pic shows...

The block is really cool, KK! and I totally LOVE the hoodie! It's so completely you, Lindy! The kitty & bunny are adorable, too.  I finished up a WIP that I'd totally forgotten. Jexxican spin some ladybug yarn for me years ago, and I'd started an infinity scarf with it but then got busy with other Christmas stuff and completely forgot it until yesterday! Now I have a cute scarf to wear!
