161  Re: Make-a-Friend Round 10: The Gallery in The Swap Gallery by bunny1kenobi on: July 19, 2013 07:59:06 PM
I'm so glad you like everything, sheepBlue!

When I made the necklace I envisioned it being worn like this (the picture is unfortunately blurry but you get the idea):

Of course, you can wear it any way you like!!   Grin

As far as the bracelet, I took 3 pieces of leather, slightly smaller than my wrist.  I started by holding the leather in the configuration you see in the pic, all 3 pieces next to each other, and  tying embroidery floss around one of the pieces on an outside edge of the group. Then it was just a matter of weaving the floss over and under the pieces of leather (this works because there is an odd number of leather pieces).  When I wanted to change colors I just tied the new color to the old one, trimmed the ends and kept weaving until I had about the same amount of bare leather on each end.  Then I took some jewelry wire (I believe it was 22 gauge, maybe 24) and wrapped it 3 times around the bracelet where the floss ended, flattening it with my pliers as I did so.  Then it was just a matter of adding the little metal ends (I don't know what they are called -they just pinch shut but you have to do it pretty hard) and adding a few jump rings and a toggle clasp.  That was probably as clear as mud, but I hope you got the idea...  Wink

So much amazing goodness contained in one gallery!!

I received package #1 AND package #2 from sheepBlue!  And there is so much spoilage here.... pic obese, just a warning!  Also, my craptastic camera takes craptastic pics.  So sheepBlue, if you have better photos (coz mine don't really do this stuff justice), please feel free to post them!

These are all going to be mixed up coz I don't remember what was package 1 and what was package 2.... anyway:

Closer to Home: she loves writing and getting letters!  She sent me some cute notecards and some "snarky fun postcards for the holidays"!

Favorite craft supply-FABRIC: she sent me soooooo many fabric pieces! I'm beginning to make TM patches and she's already a master, so she shared some of her stash! Be prepared- this is a LOT of fabric!

Craft it: she loves mixed media assemblage and playing with rusty bits!  And she always comes up with something fantastic, like this:

Hobbies: she collects funky socks, especially knee socks.  I am soooooo diggin' these flamingos!!

Craft it: As I mentioned, she is a TM patch master, and she made me a whole bunch that totally reflect my style. (I also discovered that she is a pretty good stalker...!)  I'm in the process of making a sewing machine cover of TM patches, and these are definitely going to be a part of it!

Favorite-Chapstick: she says she can't live without it!
Hobbies: sudoku puzzles (also a great love of mine) and list making.  She sent along the cutest notepad made from Monopoly money! What a cute idea!  And a cute ATC!

Whimsies: The coolest whimsies in whimsiedom!!  Holy crow, every single thing in here made me ooh and ahhh!  watch parts, buttons, cabochons, charms, transformers, beads, little animals, scrabble tiles, miniatures,  a vintage film canister full of bits & bobs, HP buttons, bingo markers, an awesome brooch, a "dreams" jar, skulls, washi tape, hinges and clasps, a tiny porcelain dutch shoe, an awesome bat.... so many fabulous things, each more squee-worthy than the last!!

Art: she has an art degree!  Check out the amazing piece she sent me (this one I do remember is from package #2):

Not the best pic, perhaps she has a better one?  Undecided

I also learned that not only is she extremely talented, she is also has a kind and generous spirit.  My cousin is having a fundraising auction to help pay for her cancer treatment, and sheepBlue sent these wonderful gifts along to help out: a Halloween stocking, a FABULOUS hoopla, and a "hunting trophy" featuring a rhino's backside  Grin:

The fat quarter in the pic is custom printed, she sells them in her etsy shop!  She had sent a note saying the unwrapped items were for my cousin, and it was not wrapped the same way everything else was, so I assumed.... and yes, made an ass of myself!   Grin  It is actually FOR ME!!  Grin It's from Closer to Home and it's her own design, little sleeping foxes.... so  freaking cool!  I'm glad I get to keep it!!

sheepBlue, you went above and beyond and spoiled me unbelievably!!  Thank you for these thoughtful and amazing treasures!!

Brief Description: Made this for a swap.  It is a woven bracelet, a technique I have never tried before.  I selected the colors because they reminded me of the ocean and the beach, and tropical breezes.... there is nothing more soothing to the nerves than laying in a hammock on the beach, cold drink in hand.....*sighs wistfully*

164  Embellished onesie in Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects by bunny1kenobi on: July 10, 2013 07:04:25 AM
I made this for my cousin's cancer fundraiser auction.  Each embellishment has a snap on it so that they can be exchanged.

Project Name: Langwidere onesie
Project Page Link (if available):
Brief Description: As a kid, I read every Oz book I could find. There are 14 of them written by L. Frank Baum, the author of the Wizard.  After he died, other authors carried on the tradition.  The most recent Oz book was released in 2006, so the franchise is still going strong, apparently.  Anyway, in the book Ozma of Oz (the third book), Princess Langwidere is an extremely vain young lady who has a cabinet full of 30 heads.  Rather than changing her outfit, she merely puts on a different head when the whim strikes her, and wears a simple white gown all the time because it will match with any head she chooses.

In my crafty quest for items to be sold for my cousin's cancer fundraiser auction, I found this little onesie and had the thought that interchangeable embellishments would be cute.  And it's white, so they all match.  Cheesy Each badge has a snap sewn to the back, so that they can be changed at whim.  There aren't 30, coz I needed to get this sent out sometime, but the idea is the same.  Wink  This is the first time I've made felt badges, and I think they turned out pretty cute!  Bummed that the bird's beak got cut off in the pic, but I think you'll get the idea....

Project Name: Scrap heap top hat
Project Page Link (if available):
Brief Description: This was my first mini top hat, made as an angel project for the Top Hat swap.  If any of you were in that swap, don't tell dfabbric about my post!  This is going out today!  I figured since she isn't involved in the games that it was a reasonable risk to assume she won't see it on here.  Anyway, the hat is made from the following repurposed items: a styrene coupler (see the plumbing aisle at Home Depot), flour, newspaper, and cardstock.  I used the coupler as a frame because I didn't want to risk the hat getting crushed in transit.  I created the top and brim from cardstock, then paper mache'd the whole thing with newspaper and flour and water paste.  Then I sealed it with modpodge and painted it, crackled it, and repainted it to make the crackle stand out.  Then I added the embellishments and lined it with felt.  Ta-da!  Cheesy
Project Picture: excuse the craptastic photos, please... Tongue

Project Name: Labyrinth TM patch
Project Page Link (if available):
Brief Description: This was my very very first TM patch, made for a swap.  (I made a similar one for my research project, but it doesn't have the writing on it.)  The lettering around the edges can be hard to see (look closely  Wink), it reads, "I move the stars for no one".  And I think being in a maze would be pretty darn mysterious!
