31  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / Re: Fiber Friday 30 March 2012 on: April 06, 2012 03:44:23 PM
Hubby has the formal offer now! We are on our way. It will be weird living in a city after 20 years in various parts of the Ozarks, but there are yarn shops (at least one that sells spinning supplies!!!) and a spinning and weaving guild I can join. Yay! Grin Now, to get packing in earnest.

MLF, we'll be living in Champaign, if it all works out.  Smiley

Nikschaf, that is the coolest yarn ever. I am inspired. I want to try that!

Shannin and Bella, I love your yarns!

I haven't had much time to spin, and we traveled to Illinois again to house hunt. We have a place lined up, and hubby probably has a job offer (still waiting on formal offer). Not all the ducks are in a row yet but we are getting there. If it all works out, I'll have a room that can be used as a studio.  Cool

LL the real question is how close is the craft/yarn store Grin

2 within easy walking distance (less than a mile); several more I can reach by city bus.  Grin

Ptarmic, I would love to use PODS, but they don't serve our town or even come near here. Otherwise, that would've been ideal for our situation.

Editing to add that hubby likely has the job. He just heard back from HR and the formal offer will be coming soon. Smiley

I have seven hanks of handspun in my shop. I haven't had the time to measure them out, but they are all just one point.  Grin

The house that we are getting (provided we hear from hubby's job  very soon) will have more usable work space, even though it is not quite as big. I will have a studio room with a door I can shut to keep the cats out. Cats think loom = hammock. I can weave more often without that worry.  Cheesy

The basement is not a finished one, but it is dry and in good shape for how old the house is. I could do all kinds of fibery and painty things down there. We may finish the basement someday, too. ::crosses fingers::

The trouble is getting our belongings there. I don't drive (have never driven), so that complicates things greatly. We can only take what we can get in one trip, with my oldest son driving the van, and hubby driving a u haul truck. I will have to distill down everything we own to the essentials. Then, after we get there, I will need the swap to decorate our new place.  Smiley

Once we are there, it is very pedestrian friendly, unlike where I am now.

Back from our trip. I could not get online at the hotel. Really bad wifi. We are closer to pulling off this move, but everything is still up the air. We have picked a house, and have a bid on it contingent on the job offer.

It is a bit smaller than the house we have now, but has more usable space. In any case, I have to decide what to keep, what to get rid of. We are making one trip with a U haul truck and the van, and that's it.

Sooo tired. I'll get my yarns in the shop sometime tomorrow, and I'll only be able to stay in the swap for a short time this round, and then just chat with you all until after we move.

I love the kitties and the mod names. I almost missed all the fun! Grin

Hi everyone. I'll have to join the next round a couple of days late, unless I can get decent internet while traveling this weekend. We are going house hunting again. Still waiting for the job offer to firm up, but we need a place to go. ::stress::

Sorry I have been quiet this round. I will get my yarn up when I get home. I am having trouble with finding time to measure it out, with all that is happening. Phone ringing off wall, constantly changing plans-- I have spun some more yarns, but measuring...no.  Embarrassed  Would anyone be interested in "I don't know how many yards" hanks of handspun? I would sell for less points because they are a mystery. Then I could get them up here quick.  Grin

I did not mean to slack off so much on my shop. I have been coughing and wheezing for the last couple of weeks, and finally went to the doc today, since I wasn't getting better. It's bronchitis and I have a fever. Glad I went, and I'm looking forward to being able to sleep again soon. I thought it was just the pollen making me sick, or I would not have waited so long. I won't do much while we are away, other than look at the houses, and when I get back on Sunday night I will rest, and then open shop mon or tues. I might say hi from the road, though.

I am really, really hoping we have answers soon. A couple of the houses we are interested in have great places for a studio---something I currently don't have.  Smiley
40  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Discussion and Questions / Re: Building Your Own PVC Wheel- Image Heavy on: March 28, 2012 01:25:24 PM
Thanks for posting about this. I'm thinking that a wheel like this would also be awesome for making art yarns with texture and baubles, without having to buy a special wheel with a bulky flyer. No orifice to worry about the yarn getting caught in. It looks fun to make, too.
