261  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Stenciling: Discussion and Questions / Printing on cork? on: November 24, 2007 10:26:32 AM
This is a new (ad)venture for me as I don't normally do much printing. My question is, can you print on cork? I have a pack of cork coasters I bought from IKEA and I want to print some black images onto them using sticky back plastic for the stencil. I have ink for paper and for fabric. Anyone know if this will work? I was thinking that the cork might be too porous so I may need to paint an acrylic paint layer before the stencil, but I'm not sure.

Also any tips for sealing them once they've been printed? I have some acrylic paint varnish but I'm not sure if that's the best thing to use. Undecided

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give! Smiley
262  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Peas on Earth Cards on: November 18, 2007 05:45:08 AM
I have made these for my friends and family for Christmas, though they'd be an appropriate sentiment all year long. Smiley

I was inspired by an old Welsh map I had in my paper stash, and my love of peas! Wink I remember seeing a t-shirt years ago using this idea and decided it'd be the perfect idea for my Christmas cards. This is one I made using the map...

Then I found an old A-Z of the area where I grew up and where many of my family and friends still live so I was inspired to make the earth for each card an area where they live, have lived, or of sentimental note to them. I've made up 12 so far, this is how they came out...

(sadly it's not a good day for nice bright pictures Roll Eyes)

They're on their pea-ish green envelopes Cheesy

I can't decide if I should add hearts to these or not, I think I probably should, though it hides some of the street names. What do you think?

or without?

Sorry the pics are so poor Undecided
263  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / B&W Portraits on: October 12, 2007 08:03:46 AM
These have either been painted for my bloke or for the wonderful peeps in the Shop the Swap. All acrylic on canvas, varying sizes.

Bob Dylan for Mojo

Lana for Atsuko

Mia for Lasandri (there is also a triptych in progress for her too)

For my bloke Jimi Hendrix

And Ginger from The Wildhearts (his fav band, painted for his birthday on Sunday) complete with spine mic stand Cheesy

And not B&W but in the same style, Mr Tom Skeleton (it's a portrait of a skeleton I own)

Phew! It's nice to see them all in one place Smiley
264  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Bragas! on: October 07, 2007 06:06:12 AM
Otherwise known as knickers, pants, panties, undies, underpants...

I am not in a sensible mood today so I thought I'd paint some pants! Cheesy

Acrylic on cotton canvas.

I'm not telling which ones I went for! Wink
265  Halloween / Halloween Decor and Parties / Pumpkin Earings on: September 07, 2007 07:36:05 AM
I came across some orange felt balls which I'd made a few months ago with the intention of making some Halloween related jewellery, but I must have run out of inspiration. Last night I was inspired again, dug them out and voila! Pumpkin earings!

I'd make a tute but I think they're so easy you can probably work it out Cheesy

I love that they have the brown 'stubby' embroidery thread bit at the bottom.

Bring on Halloween! Grin
266  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Crafty at heart on: August 31, 2007 06:41:43 AM
This is a piece that I have created for Alteredmommy since she is being fantastic and sending me some fabric for a project. She asked for a bright piece of art for her workroom...I hope this fits the bill.

I was stenciling this voodoo heart image from Stencilry onto the back of one of my shirts to cover an ink splotch when it occurred to me that it looked like a paint splotch itself. So the main heart image was from the centre stencil, painted with watercolours. Recycling as well as inspiration! I loved the circles on the ends of the tendrils so I used patterned papers and watercolours, felt circles, thread and buttons to make more circles. Since this is destined for a workroom I tried to make it crafty! Grin

Sorry the photo isn't as sharp I would have wanted it.

Edited to add slightly clearer picture but with a little flash... Undecided

I hope you like it Alteredmommy! (and you said you weren't going to look! Wink)
267  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) / Yeah, I made it myself. on: August 22, 2007 05:05:37 AM
I had another burst of inspiration when I found this copy of an old photo someone (possibly Racky since almost all the paper I use is from her!) sent me in a swap.

You can't see the detail so much since I resized but the picture just cracked me up, even before he put the dress on. His face just looks so nonchalant and yet defiant at the same time, and she looks like she wants to be somewhere else!

I present...(put on a fighting "yeah, wanna make something of it?" voice for this) "Yeah, I made it myself".

Both together:

The dress in action:

And in the making:

I like to think he would have made it himself rather than the boring trousers and top he was wearing Cheesy
268  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) / The residue of life... on: August 18, 2007 04:16:50 AM
The residue of life is short. Live as on a mountain.

I love this saying. I recently came across an old clock face that I'd used for something else, and then changed my mind. I used the rest of the face for another project (to be seen soon) and kept the 1,2,3,4 part for this. The saying is out of an old quote book, I've been wanting to use it for ages. I kept going back to it and it's joyous sentiment of enjoying every bit of life while we can! Finally it all clicked into place when I remembered my wide eyed Teesha Moore rubber stamp. And this crazy combo was born...

Face: The clock hand is moveable

Clock: (the numbers glow in the dark)

Both can be hung from the brass circles. I'd like to imagine them hung below an old clock like the weights below a cuckoo clock. Cheesy

Hope you like! Smiley

270  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Father's Day / Cowboy Cassette Calendar for Dad's B'day on: August 15, 2007 07:48:16 AM
I decided that I'd make my Dad a gift this year based on something that I love making, ATC's, but make them in a far more practical form for my Dad's birthday in October. There's nothing more practical than a calendar, especially one which runs from birthday to birthday rather than Jan - December! Cheesy

He likes westerns so I decided to go with that theme. The backgrounds are watercolour paint in brown to look old and parchmenty, with added 'gunshot blood'. I collaged over with printed calendars and cut up an old copy of a Lone Star Annual. I tried to use images and speech bubbles as appropriate (or funny) as I could, and also follow vague bits of story. With a random kangaroo thrown in for good measure! Cheesy

All boxed up and cassette looking...

The whole group of cards...

1st group...

October: And so...That's too bad, because I aim to stay here for a week at least (Dad visits me for a week in October)
November: Okay Mike. Give him a drink. (my bloke's name is Mike)
December: Later: ha, ha! Ha, ha!
January: And much later still... ...and Bob falls to the floor...
February: Meanwhile...as a stranger rides into town:

2nd group...

March: One...Two...Three!
April: (Poster) Wanted dead or alive Ned Kelly 5,000
May: Cripes!...That kanga's in a tearing hurry...better investigate!
June: Seems as if Ned's given me the slip again...
July: make it a double. Sorry, mister, I can't serve you.
August: You'd better have your drink and move on. We don't like strangers in this town.

Last group...

September: ...and so... Drop those guns Hobey! ...you're under arrest! ... YIIEEE!!
October: Later: It's way past your bedtime, smallfry! ...Finish your lemonade and hop it! ...
November: Drop that stuff and come out with yours hands up.
December: Look, stranger, I'm offering you a quicker way out of town. Drink up and move on. Ho! Ho! Ho! The End

Think he'll like it?
