231  NEEDLEWORK / Sublime Stitching Embroidery / Daddy is a DJ & Yummy vs Yucky on: May 20, 2008 04:06:30 PM
I received some SS patterns from teamwang in the shop the swap on here and I'm finally brave enough to try them. Grin These are my first attempts at embroidery so I'm sure I'll get better, but I love them!

These are a present for my sister so I hope she likes them!

'Daddy is a DJ' - Because sometimes he is, and I love this image. I might try and embroider that saying on the back, if i can get the right lettering.
And Yummy vs Yucky. Because eating is nice and pooing is not! Wink

Yeah, baby has a yucky butt in brown thread, I couldn't resist!

Closeups...

I need to go iron the hoop marks out of them now Cheesy
232  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Fabric Fairy Canvas on: May 07, 2008 02:41:38 AM
I'm not sure this strictly belongs here...but it was hard to choose between the decorating section, art or sewing section... Cheesy

This is a stitched canvas I have made for my sister's nursery. She moves house next month and is busy stressing about all sorts of things (house move, pregnancy...) so I thought I'd help her out by creating some artwork and decorations for her new nursery. This is the first thing I've created so far. I found the fabric remnant in a fabric shop in Sevilla and knew it was perfect! I have another 2 panels which I may make up in a similar way if she likes this first one.

I'm visiting her this weekend so I hope she likes it!

233  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Recycled Newspaper Necklace on: May 06, 2008 01:39:12 AM
I wasn't quite sure where to put this, but since it's recycling newspapers I thought reconstructed would be best Smiley

I love these beads because they're very light to wear, but still chunky (just how I like them!). Beads are made from old newspapers, pva and paint. They're strung on black suede.

Hanging...

Bead detail...

I love how something so simple can be saved from the recycling box and made into something so organicly funky! What do you think? Cheesy
234  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / A 'Good Things' book for a good friend on: April 07, 2008 07:22:02 AM

235  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / The Human Body (9 photo's & x-ray nudity!) on: March 28, 2008 06:53:55 AM
These are large illustration pieces that I created during my final year at uni. Granted that was a while ago now, but I've just resiscoverd the photo's I had taken of them. I don't think I've ever posted this and it's one of my favourite works.

It was an open project and I decided on a set of illustration for the human body which could work individualy or as a whole piece. I based each piece on whatever was interesting me at the time. For my exhibition all of the boxes were mounted together and back-lit so that the x-rays showed up.

I was so sad to dismantle it, but hey, I have the photo's and I have been able to recycle the parts into other artworks. Which is something else I love to do, like a continuously evolving art piece.

Anyway, on to the photo's!

236  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Birdie Bride & Groom UPDATE: Wedding action pics! on: March 24, 2008 11:48:35 AM
I made these for a friends wedding this weekend. Unfortunately I can't attend, but I've sent these two cuties back with my folks to give to them. Just giving the vouchers seemed too boring a gift!

She loves gardening and nature, and is very arty, so I hope she will love them.

UPDATE:
I gave these to my Mum to give to her before the wedding and I have just heard that she loved them! Not only that but when she saw them the flowers were taken off the cake and my birdies were put on there instead! I'm so pleased and honoured! Grin

Here is an action shot on the cake:

They matched so well with the yellows in her flowers!

They are made from yellow leather (with the smooth part inside). Sewing the leather by hand was so difficult! The veil is beaded around the head and dotted around the rest. His waistcoat is black cotton with french knot buttons. He has a ribbon bow tie and a rather smart felt top hat. Cheesy
237  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Heather Feather & Percy Pigeon (birdie-along) on: March 13, 2008 04:00:21 PM
I don't usually post in this board, but when I saw craftewoman's birdie along I knew I had to try and make one! Cheesy

*now with Percy Pigeon on page 2!*

I took a bit of a unintentional face detour when her forehead turned out a bit more pointy than I'd hoped. I think I should have given her more stuffing brains! I also gave her pointy wings. Here she is (albeit legless at the moment)!

hmm, I need to tidy up that rump stitching! Cheesy

Gratuitous plumage shots...these are more true to colour

Thank you for the pattern craftewoman! (even though I botched and detoured my way through it Undecided More practice needed...)
238  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Valentine's Day / It's V-Day (you've got red on you) on: February 13, 2008 08:47:20 AM
I don't get especially mushy on Valentine's day, but I do always make a card.

This year's is Shaun of the Dead inspired since we both love the film. I'm making the bloke a "you've got red on you" shirt, with the red splotch bit vaguely a heart.

This is the prototype, so I can unfold it and design & colour it better for the next one  before it's folded.

The back will have the "red" quote and Happy VZ-Day written in scratchy letters.

Hopefully not too mushy for the bloke! Cheesy
239  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Other Image Reproduction Techniques: Completed Projects / Autumn Leaves on: February 01, 2008 08:11:33 AM
I've experimented with wax and inks for these, and a little copper dust for the second one. I love the muted earthy colours and the effect of the wax resist.

Last week I found a few blocks of printing lino that I bought years ago to try it out. So I carved the leaf out of that. This is my second carved stamp. I'm really pleased with the way the leaves have come out and their contrast against the brown of the background.

What do you think?
240  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / (i)Pod Garden Sculpture on: January 29, 2008 02:51:31 PM
Taking inspiration from nature I decided to make an i-pod, though technically it's more of a seed-pod. Cheesy

I created this for the paper challenge which was to create something from sheet music, hence the paper used. The lotus blossom is associated with creation mythology, so I thought itd be fun to show the Lotus seed pod as a creator of music.

So you can see the size of it.

Process:
- made up frame from wire
- covered with layer of papier mache
- covered with layer of brown paper tape for strength
- asked bloke to photocopy music paper at work
- made a cup of tea
- stained music paper with teabags whilst drinking tea (no waste here!)
- darkened the inside crevices with brown watercolour paint

No-one has guessed the song yet (apart from Racky with a clue Cheesy)

Hope you like, it was very fun to make and it looks great nestled between some of the pots in my garden! Grin
