Thank you! It was great fun, and delicious, but none of us want to see a trifle again anytime soon after having 5 bowls of it in one evening Cheesy

We are hatching plans for another foodie competition soon though!

A while ago some friends and I were discussing trifles since we had grown up with them at parties and Christmas. We disagreed with what went in the best trifle, so we decided to have a little competition!

This was my entry...

I followed this recipe as it was the most similar to what I grew up with, but with a few tweaks.

I used Madeira cake rather than sponge fingers.
I added 5 tablespoons of port rather than the sherry.
I used fresh strawberries, raspberries and also blackberries. I only wanted the jelly to be around the fruit, I didn't want it as a layer on it's own so I added more fruit than the recipe asked for. Maybe 450g.
Into the strawberry jelly (jello) I added a little Ribena (blackcurrant cordial) for more fruity umph Cheesy
No almonds, just 2 Cadbury's Flake which I bashed up into little bits. ( I went over it in the packet with a rolling pin). We always had our trifles covered in flake growing up.

Here were all the contenders...

And the winner?

I was joint first with a very boozy Pina Colada Trifle! Cheesy

I'd made a silly trifle crown for the winner, with hundreds and thousands sewn onto the top for extra 1970s style Wink

We've just moved into a new home so I'm busy collecting and making artwork for my walls at the moment.

We've also had a lot of visiting birds and there are some fat little babies about the garden too. This is a chubby little baby sparrow that my bloke has named Paul Cheesy

Just acrylic on canvas Smiley
