1  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Granny baby blanket on: October 28, 2013 02:05:00 PM
My son's teacher is pregnant and due any day now. I get on really with her and wanted to make something for the baby.
Blanket was the obvious choice, but didn't want to go pastels (they just get dirty so quickly) and as she wasn't finding out the gender was difficult to pick a colour scheme, until I found out the due date Smiley
These colours are perfect for Halloween, but was a bit worried because they are so outside the 'normal' baby colours!
Thankfully she loved the blanket Cheesy

Really proud I actually finished it, so showing off!
2  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Discussion and Questions / Help need to attach braided mohair to soft doll on: October 25, 2013 02:12:03 AM
Hi.
I am trying to make Christmas Elves, ready for their adventures over Advent, however stuck on applying the braided mohair I have for hair.

I spent all last night going round in circles searching for a tutorial online and found lots and lots on re-wigging plastic dolls or using yarn for hair, but nothing on how to use the braided mohair.

this is the stuff I mean: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Medium-Red-Mohair-Braid-36-Length-/221252537118?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3383adcb1e

I want to do long slightly out of control hair on one and short fuzzy/spiky hair on another.

Really hope that someone can either tell me how to do it, or point me in the direction of an online tutorial somewhere.

Thank you Smiley

4  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Discussion and Questions / need help organising ephemera!! on: January 06, 2013 01:41:48 PM
I only really started collecting bits and pieces of stuff last year, although I have been scrap booking for quite a few years, and already have so much I really don't know how to store it so I know where to look for what I want!
With your ephemera do you sort/store by type (magazine cut-outs, die cuts, chip-board, games bits etc), by subject, colour, by . . . . I don't know!!

Please help this bewildered paper crafter to be able to use her resources FAR more easily!!

Thank you Grin

Details of swap:
Journaling Prompts

Find a deck of cards and alter them write/print/stamp a prompt on one side and do the prompt on the other!  A fun, no pressure swap, with no stalking of partners, just your own interpretation of different prompts.
So what to do? Basically get an ordinary pack of playing cards, find or make up a list of journaling or art journaling prompts, place the prompt text on one side of the card, then  do the prompt on the other side of the card in your preferred style. Art Journaling or Journaling styles are acceptable. You can do the same prompts for each of your partners, or you can do different prompts - its up to you. We will be sending 2 cards to each partner so please think about time commitment when signing up as 30 cards will take a while to do! (5 partners x 3 groups =15 partners x 2 cards each = 30 cards!)

Please dont punch holes in the cards (they may not be where your partner wants them) and please dont make them too 3D as some people may want to put them in plastic wallets or to bind the cards into a book of some kind.

Depending on numbers I will split us into groups of up to 6.
If you are interested in being in more than one group please let me know on the questionnaire. You may be in a maximum of 3 groups. Please understand that multiple groups are dependent on the number of participants and that the group size may vary slightly, but will be as even as possible.

This is open to everyone, so please only sign up if you are willing to post internationally ESPECIALLY if you want to be in multiple groups (we will be sending envelopes only, so postage shouldnt be a problem). Also as we will only be sending envelopes, DCs are not required but proof of posting IS a requirement for this swap, just in case something goes missing (dont know how this works in other countries, but in UK you ask for proof of posting when you send at post office and you get receipt with details of the addressee, date sent etc on it). Resending wont be required if something goes missing but ONLY if you can provide proof of posting, otherwise you will be required to resend.

Communication is vital for a fun swap so please post in the discussion thread at least once a week. Also please respond quickly to pms from your partners and the organizers. When sending pms to the organizer/co-organizer please use the following in the subject line: Journaling Prompts sent/received/late/help etc. Please pm your group leader and your partners when you send and when you receive.
If you have any questions regarding the swap, communication etc please ask in the discussion thread or send the organizer a pm.

As organizer I reserve the right to refuse any applicant based on poor feedback.

If you want to participate, information to send to organizer AND co-organizer:

6  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / journaling prompts swap on: September 07, 2012 04:35:08 AM
hi,

Came across this idea on another site and wondered if anyone would be interested.

Basically you alter playing cards - put a journalling prompt on one side and 'do' the prompt on the other. We all end up with lots of different prompts and lots of ideas for using them.

DETAILS OF SWAP

Description:
Have you ever wondered how much you can fit in an A5 sized envelope?

In this swap you fill an envelope with random craft-related supplies from your personal craft stash and craft a small item for your partner(s).

This is an international swap and the size requirement for the envelope is A5 (US equivalent is about A9 Diplomat size). This can be any type of envelope, as long as it is this size.
I will attempt to match partners within regions if possible to help with keeping postage low.

Since this swap requires little time, you have the option of signing up for 1, 2, or 3 partners!

The Fine Print:
1. Good communication is very important!  It is your responsibility to inform your partner(s) and the organizers when you send/receive your envelopes. Also - please check-in here at least once a week. I will leave comments regarding communication.
2. Although this is a random swap, the general rule of thumb is to send out things which you would love to receive.
3. No DCNs will be required for this swap (because the envelopes do not qualify for DCNs), but you must agree to resend to your partner(s) if the envelope(s) go missing.
4. Everyone who signs up for the swap must post in this thread, the more often the better, so we can see what you are up to and know you are still around! Feel free to PM me if you foresee any problems so we can help you. This should not be an issue at all, since this will be a very fast, fun swap.
5. I will try to match you up with people who have supplies that you can use, but cannot guarantee this. To help with this I may do some round robin partnering.

When contacting the organiser (mini_mum), please include one of following as message title:
Stuffed Envelope Swap Sign up, Stuffed Envelope Swap Question, Stuffed Envelope Swap Sent, Stuffed Envelope Swap Received

Please send completed questionnaires to mini_mum AND IdlersDesign by PM, and DO NOT post here.

Details of swap:

This swap is to make a wonderful item for your partner. If partners agree you may send a couple of tiny extras, but they are not required and you must check with your partner to see if it is ok. This going to be a medium (3 point) swap so you can do either 1 medium item or 3 small items, although if both partners agree you can go larger, but NOT smaller.

a rough estimate of sizes described by time it takes to make package, by physical size and by cost:

By Time
-Large = 3 or more hours
-Medium = 2 or more hours
-Small = 2 or less hours

By Size
-Large = A shawl, a shirt, a skirt, a set of jewellery with four to five items, a purse (handbag)
-Medium = one single necklace or bracelet, a scarf
-Small = Earrings, stickers, wallets (purse!), pouches, bookmarks

By Price
-Large = $30 or more
-Medium = $10-$30 dollars
-Small = $10 or less (about 6.30 currently)

Since this is a longer swap (1 month crafting time) I want everyone to know that they need to keep in contact both with the organize and their partner. Im not going to implement anything as rigid as weekly check-ins, but post try to post to the thread at least every  week and please dont leave your partner or myself hanging if we pm you!

Please make sure you post in this thread for updates as soon as you sign-up/think about signing up.

*I will leave accurate feedback regarding sending on time, meeting swap requirements, and having good communication with organizer and partner. My definition of good communication is sending pm's to both organizer and partner when BOTH sending AND receiving, answering pm's from organizer and partner in a timely manner (within 1 day), and letting organizer and partner know if you will be out of town or if you know you will be unable to communicate for a set amount of time.

*Organizer reserves the right to refuse entry to the swap based on poor performance in previous swaps with this organizer or poor feedback on swapper's profile.

If you want to participate, please send information to mini_mum by PM and dont leave it here

You must answer all questions! And please list AT LEAST 5 themes where 5 themes are asked for.    Thanks!
