21  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / black cat halloween bag (and now a pumpkin too...) on: September 04, 2004 06:20:33 AM
I made this last night so I could have a little halloween themed purse to use next month.

The whole thing is made out wool felt, because I didn't want to have to deal with seams and fraying. It took about 30 minutes from start to finish.

1. I found this wooden mask at Joanns, so I used it as a template.  Cut out 3, (2 black and 1 white).  On one of the black, also cut out the eye holes and teeth.

2. Cut out 2 small triangles from orange, and one from green.  Use embroidery floss to applique these to the front site of the black face with the holes cut out.

3. Take the appliqued face and the white face, and sew along the top from the tip of one ear, across the middle, and to the top of the other ear.

4. Then add the 2nd black piece and sew along the outside edge.

5. Outline the eyes and teeth with white embroidery floss and glue 2 small black circles to the center of the eyes.

6. Cut a 8 inch by 4 inch piece of green felt.  Fold it in half and stitch up the middle.  Attach one end to the back of each ear for a handle.

IF YOU WANT TO PARTICIPATE, REMEMBER TO SEND YOUR INFO TO ORGANIZER VIA PRIVATE MESSAGE AND NOT TO REPLY WITH IT HERE.

Items to send:
Promo materials can be anything: business cards, postcards, buttons, stickers, fliers, etc.  You should plan to send enough that each person who signs up can get at least 10 of your materials. So, if 10 people sign up, you should send in 100.

How will this work:
After sign ups have been completed, I will let everyone know how much promo materials they should send.  You must also include postage for a USPS Priority package to be sent back to you.  If you are in the US, you can either send a $3.85 priority stamp or you can paypal me the money.  If you are international, I will let you know how much you should include for shipping before you send your promo materials.  If I do not receive the shipping costs by the time the swap is over, your items will not be sent and you will not receive any.

If this all works out, we can plan on organizing one every other month. I am asking that if you participate in another swap like this to let me know.  This way I can omit promo materials from people you already receive them from.  I am also asking that you include how many sales you think you will make in the next 2 months.  This way I can send more materials to people who can use them.

If possible, send your stuff in a catalog sized envelope.  This way I can re-use it when I send your stuff back!

Also remember to read the Swap Info Guide to find out how to ship your item and other details about participating in a swap.

This is a swap for promotional materials.  You send in promotional materials for your shop/service to me, I will distrubute the materials, and you will receive other people's promo materials to include with items that you sell.  Lia let me know there is a swap like this on TheSwitchboards.com, so I have taken some of the swap info from there.

Items to send:
Promo materials can be anything: business cards, postcards, buttons, stickers, fliers, etc.  You should plan to send enough that each person who signs up can get at least 10 of your materials. So, if 10 people sign up, you should send in 100.

Let me know if I missed anything or you have any further suggestions.  Also, does anyone think I should package up the grouped promo materials or will people just take care of that when they receive them?  I don't mind doing it if anyone has any good ideas...

If possible, send your stuff in a catalog sized envelope.  This way I can re-use it when I send your stuff back!

24  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / cheap doors for bookcase on: March 29, 2004 05:48:28 PM
Here's some pictures of my recent alteration to a bookcase I had hanging around.
I bought 4 painting canvases at the craft store and using some hinges, I attached them to a particle board bookcase I was using to store food in my pantry.  The new "doors" can easily be painted, since they are just canvas and are  light so the hinges can be pretty small.   My bookcase is 6 feet tall and 2 feet wide, so I used four 1 1/2 foot by 2 foot canvases.

25  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / slide lamp on: February 19, 2004 11:20:02 AM
hey everyone...i've been lurking around here for a while, but only just dragged out my camera to take pictures of my crafty advenures.

here's my slide lamp shade:
http://www.auroraseven.com/alison/craftster/lamp1.gif

it was super easy to make.  i had an old lampshade that was falling apart, so i ripped off the paper.  I punched a hole on all 4 sides of the slides, then connected them with jump rings to each other and the shade frame.  Some day, I might make it longer, but it was hard to punch the holes, so I stopped at 4 rows.

i'm also kind of worried about what wattage bulb to use.  it has a 25 in there now, which doesn't really give off enough light to make it useful.  anyone have any experience with higher watts without harming anything?

here's some closer shots...thanks!
