6  UNITED STATES / Massachusetts / Promoting local crafters on: January 22, 2008 11:32:48 AM
Hi!

I run the website http://www.homeofthesampler.com which is a marketing tool for indie businesses.  We're doing local editions of the Sampler and since I'm local to here, that's our next edition!

If you are interested in participating, City Sampler: Boston will feature items exclusively from crafters, DIYers and awesome businesses from Boston and the surrounding area.  You definitely don't need to be in Boston, just that you are local and interested in the Boston crafting scene.

City Samplers are a way for people who aren't from the area to get a taste of what Boston is all about, and for locals to support their hometown crafters.  You can find more info here: http://homeofthesampler.com/city/boston.html

The product samples are due on February 4th, the Sampler will be released on February 16th and there will be a party at Spark Crafts on the 16th from 2-6 to celebrate (you're all invited!).

Let me know if you are interested in participating!!!

Thanks,
Alison (formerly of wonderland Q, now owner of the Sampler)
7  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Re: another sampler site.........? on: December 21, 2007 07:54:57 AM
Thanks for pointing out the links, I will be reading them.  The Sampler transfer is still happening, and I don't officially own it yet.  Once I do, there will be a new site launched and I do have legal counsel to assist me with the wording of different parts of it.

8  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Re: another sampler site.........? on: December 21, 2007 07:30:10 AM
Hi Tiara,

I recently took over the Sampler from Marie, and any exclusion of Malaysia is purely accidental.   Australian orders are accepted, and are in fact the first country listed in the pop up list.

While I obviously would love for no competition, I fully understand and expect it.  If anyone has had bad experiences with the Sampler, I would love to know what they are and how I can improve things for them.

I know some of the beginning comments were centered around "another sampler site".  I think its the use of those words that gets people upset.  If you were to say you wanted to create "a site that collects products in exchange for advertising" then you wouldn't get quite the backlash.  It would be the  same as saying you wanted to create another craftster site, when you are simply looking to create another craft forum.

Anyway, I'm not looking to argue.  I would just like to offer that if anyone had a bad experience with the Sampler, let me know what I can do to make it better.  Also, I will be fixing the Malaysian oversight as soon as I can.

9  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / The Sampler! a great promotion tool for your business! on: March 08, 2007 08:00:04 AM
Hi!  I checked with Leah first, and she gave me the "ok" to post this here...

The Sampler is a super fun marketing & promotional tool for indie businesses. Each month, independent crafters, artists, shops, zines and record labels who run web-based businesses send samples and promotional materials to a contribution pool. All the samples are photographed, posted to the site and then are portioned out, put in little packages and sent off to Sampler Subscribers, other Sampler Contributors and members of the Media all over the world!

We've been getting some really great press over at The Sampler.  Below are a few of the most recent.  If you are interested in contributing, or just have any questions, let me know!!!  The next due date is March 15th, so you've still got time!

10  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Tips for Participating in Craft Fairs / Re: What are.... on: December 07, 2006 07:44:28 PM
It means that they don't just let every applicant in, or on a first come/first served basis.  They review applications and choose vendors based on whatever criteria they have decided upon for their show.
