1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Re: Rarifying The Blue Spotted Giraffe on: April 09, 2012 10:50:07 AM
pleasantly malformed- thanks.  i found an old (possibly? a curtain rod, but it's thick like a dowel) laying around so i think i might start playing around with it and see what kind of stand i can come up with.

ivoryh1632- haha i almost did have a panic attack while making it.  no one was home so i just started winging it and then when i when to cut it off, the scissors wouldn't cut through all the tape at first.  I started thinking that my boyfriend would come home and find me dead and half wrapped in duct tape.  but i got it off, thankfully.
2  Halloween / Halloween Decor and Parties / Beware of Zombies! on: March 29, 2012 12:51:43 AM
Another halloween decoration I made last year around the actual holiday and never posted.  I need to get better about that  Undecided

It's a play off of signs that are in all the parks and the lakefront around the city that read "Do not feed pigeons" that I just freehanded with some acrylic paint onto a scrap piece of thin wood that was laying around.  I used gold acrylic mixed with water to give it a distressed look.  It now lives on a shelf with some other halloween odds and ends (the pumpkin the picture is just a dollar store find painted black and then glittered).

3  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Super simple halloween curtains (with link to tutorial) on: March 29, 2012 12:39:37 AM
I live in an old building (around a 100 years old) and we have these massive windows in all the rooms that measure almost 80" in height, so finding store bought curtains that didn't completely blow my budget was never going to happen, so I've been on a curtain making kick lately.  The boyfriend and I are both obsessed with halloween and our bedroom has become a year round halloween themed room with his collection of zombie/horror/nightmare before christmas things mixed in.  Plus I just love this fabric!!!

I used this tute for the curtain and a simple scrap of ribbon as a tie back:

Super super simple and took me less then an hour from start to finish.

Full curtain (don't mind the messy windowsill ha!):

4  Halloween / Halloween Decor and Parties / Halloween Wreath on: March 29, 2012 12:23:52 AM
I've been lurking around here forever and finally got around to actually posting something...so hello!

I made this a few weeks before this past halloween, but my bf and I have a halloween themed bedroom due to both our love of halloween and his obsession with collecting zombie/nightmare before christmas/horror themed things.  Our room has pretty much evolved into a mish mash of all those things and the halloween decorations never get taken down so now this wreath lives on the wall in there.

I used a foam wreath from the craft store and cut some scrap fabric (it was a leftover part of a bedsheet) into squares and then used a wooden chopstick to poke the fabric into the foam.  The ribbon and the bats I found at the dollar store and used hot glue to fix the bats on the ends of the ribbon and a twist tie to attach the ribbon.

7  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Re: I think Betty Draper would wear this too. on: March 28, 2012 11:26:49 PM
I've been meaning to make a Betty dress and this might have given me the inspiration to finally get around to doing it (silly college work getting in the way).  Love your dress.

Love the ruffles.  I would never want to use this apron, in fear of it getting dirty!!!

Very cute! You have a lucky little sister.

Somewhat off topic, but is your duct tape form on a stand? Or just hanging on the wall? I was just curious since I made one too (without any help, for a few seconds I thought I had entrapped myself in duct tape forever) and mine is just hanging on the wall and it's sometimes difficult to get things right on it since it's at a weird angle.  Just wondering if you had any tips on a stand or getting it to work better?
