31  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / cold fabrics? Fabric divas need your help on: December 12, 2006 06:55:34 PM
K folks here's the background story. I recently just got a St. Bernard (His name is Bear, he's a big sweety  Grin ) he's a large dog to say the least, almost 200 lbs large with a lot of fur. We live in AL and he seems to prefer to sleep on the bathroom floor cause it's cooler. I'd really like him to have a bed cause I know when he gets older he's going to need one (they have joint problems).

Are there any fabrics that seem to not hold the heat in as much as others? I was planning on getting some thick foam, wrapping that in an old blanket/comforter and making a removable slip cover (drool folks lots of drool) out of some nice cool fabric. Any suggestions on what to use? Or if this is a crappy idea what to do. *sigh* it was so much easier to make a bed for my maltese.

Thanks!
32  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Everquest II players I need your help!! on: November 08, 2006 08:01:21 PM
Hello all I need your help...My Hubby plays Everquest II and I'd like to craft some X-mas gifts around that.
I know that when you go to your "camp-out" area that it gives you a list of your characters I know the characters that he uses on a regular basis (sorry don't know the names). What I was thinking of is printing out a picture of his regular characters and framing them. As Gamers would you appreciate this? Is there a way to do a freeze frame to capture a pic of his characters? I'm not to most computer literate person and I know next to nothing about Everquest. Can I get to this area without his knowing? I really want it to be a surprise. If you know of any other gifts (other then giving him stuff on the game) I'd be more then willing to learn.
**A little background info. Almost every room in the house I decorated, except for the kitchen and the den. The den is a little random but has a gamer/super-hero feel (he has all of his transformers in there). I want to print out and frame his characters from his game to go with the room**

34  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / One Tiny Thing Round 9 (Signups closed, Send by SEP 18) on: August 28, 2006 06:22:35 AM
Swap name: One Tiny Thing Round 9
Craftster member who is organizing this swap: lady4feet
Sign-up date range: AUG 28 - SEP 4
Date to send item by: SEP 18

Limited to a certain number of people? (optional): No

Restricted to people who all live in the same country? NO

All ages allowed? Or 18+? All Ages

Swap Organizer himself/herself meets these conditions:
- Has fully read the Swap Info Guide: YES
- Has successfully completed two swaps as a participant: YES
- Is not organizing more than three swaps right now: No only one
- Will recruit a co-organizer or give all details to a Swap Moderator if this swap has more than 25 participants: YES

Swap Organizer will check each participant to make sure they meet these conditions:
- Has been a member for at least one month: YES
- Has posted at least 15 times: YES
- Has completed at least one swap successfully before signing up for more: YES
- Is not currently signed up for more than five swaps: YES
- Does not have any negative feedback: YES

Details of swap:

The idea is to make one (just one, no more, no less) tiny craft item.  It should be physically small (miniatures are encouraged) and should be something that you can craft with a high level of skill.  Even if it is a fairly simple/easy item for you to make, please embellish or perfect it so that it best represents your skill.  (For example, if you wish to make a coin purse, I encourage you to embroider, add beading, or take other steps to make it a really special piece.)

You will receive only one partner.  You may only send that partner ONE tiny craft - "extras" are not allowed in this swap.  (Partly because it can be embarrassing to receive more than you sent, and partly because this will force you to put all of your creative energy into make one really stellar, tiny craft.)  The idea behind this swap is to give you a simple, low-pressure craft swap that won't stress you out or cost a lot to ship.

How do you know if your idea is "tiny?"  Examples:  A coin purse is tiny; a clutch purse is not.  A pair of earrings is tiny; a necklace, earrings, and bracelet set is not.  A trinket box is tiny; a pencil box is not.  An ATC (artist trading card) is tiny; a full-size drawing is not.  A pair of small barrettes is tiny; one large barrette is tiny; a selection of barrettes is not.  (If you're not sure if your idea qualifies as "tiny," ask me!) All items should be 4"x4" or smaller.

35  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Car shifter on: August 01, 2006 01:26:41 PM
In my Hubby's old car he replaced his regular shifter with a short-throw shifter. But he sold his car so we have the old shifter sitting in my craft room.
I'm talking about the whole shifter not just the knob part. Like this one http://www.campbellenterprises.com/images/MPparts/Neon/shifter2.jpg

What in the world can I make with it? I'm at a loss.

37  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / laminate flooring scraps on: July 15, 2006 08:34:36 AM
I have lots of laminate flooring scraps (you know the fake wood stuff). My Hubby and I have only done one room but plan to do 3 more. What am I to do with all the scraps?? I thought about making small boxes but I don't really need that many boxes. Do you guys think it would work binding journals/books with them?
Any more ideas would be great.
38  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / What's in your pantry? on: July 13, 2006 06:55:35 PM
Hello all!
I've recently moved in with my Hubby (finally!) and am excited because I can cook for more then just me. I really want to branch out on my cooking, I have all kinds of recipes and have been watching A LOT of food network.
What I'm really wondering though is what do you guys try to make sure you always have on hand? Other then the basics like milk, bread, etc. And what do you guys use said ingredients for? I always have a box of bisquick hang out in my cupboard. But what other things would you cooks suggest?
39  UNITED STATES / Alabama / Phenix City/Columbus, GA area? on: July 09, 2006 08:51:33 AM
Hello guys!
I just moved to Phenix City for good a few weeks ago. I was in the Navy and stationed over at Ft. Gordon and my Hubby is stationed at Ft. Benning so I'd come over on the weekends. But not now! Now I'm here for good.
I was just wondering if there were any craftsters in the area? School doesn't start for another month so I'm a bit lonely.
