Calabaza and hgddm - Thank you very much for stopping by.  Cheesy I am glad to hear that my first tutorial is not too confusing.
2  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / "I Heart Paris" Mini Coin Purse with a Tutorial (Picture Heavy!) on: October 15, 2011 05:54:46 PM
I just recently made this purse and attempted to make my first Tutorial, so please bear with me. Smiley

Materials you will need:

Cotton Fabrics for body and lining
Fleece or quilt batting
3.5" (or 8.5 cm) metal clasp
Cotton lace (optional)
Pattern or tracing paper
Chopstick or stuffing fork
Sewing pins

Seam allowance: 1/4" (or 0.7 cm.)

Sewing Body and Lining:

1. Place fleece, right side of the main fabric and the lining together (make sure that the pattern on the main fabric and lining fabric match up)

2. Sew along the pattern line, leave about 1 1/2" opening

3. Trim off excess fleece/ quilt batting and then clip along the curve of the purse

4. Turn right side out by using a chopstick and then use a crochet hook or stiletto to push the corner of the purse body to get sharp corners

5. Hand-sew to close the opening using a ladder stitch

Repeat Step 1-5 then you will get 2 pieces of the purse body (or you can work on two pieces from the beginning). I also hand-quilted the pieces (optional).

6. Before we sew the purse bodies together, turn to the liner side then fold each piece in half and put a mark on the bottom (red circles) -- this is where you will use as a starting point to sew

We will sew from the mark area (1) to the other corner of purse body (2)

8. Sew two pieces together using a ladder stitch from center to (1), then from center to (2)
Tip: make sure that you only sew on the edges of the outer bodies (grey fabrics in red circle) -- this will give you neat looking stitches (you can check by turning over to see the stitches from the outer body side)

9. After you finish attaching the body pieces, you can decorate the purse as you like. Here I sewed cotton lace on one side of the purse.

10. Next fold the purse in half and make a mark; then align the mark with the middle hole of the purse frame (work on one side at a time)

11. Use pins to lock the marked position and the two ends, make sure that the lining is well tucked inside the frame (Tip: using stilletto or crochet hook to insert the lining inside the frame)

12. Roughly sew the frame with the purse body to lock the aligned positions

13. Using double threads, starting from one end, insert the needle under the frame to pass through the 1st hole of the frame then move to the 2nd hole

14. Once the needle pass through the liner (about 45 degree angle) in the back (Tip: make sure that it comes out just right next to the frame), insert the needle back through the liner close to the point where the needle first came out as much as possible -- then pass the needle (about 45 degree angle) through the second hole again to the front -- this will make your liner looks neat without seeing the stitches

15. Repeating the same steps but now move from the 2nd hole to the 3rd hole and so on

16. Work on the other side -- then You are DONE...Hooray!!

Please leave me any question or comment you might have. I will be happy to answer.

Thanks for stopping by!  Cheesy

Thank you Italianchildhood and Smallhold for your kind comments! Smiley

I picked up this fabric for this project but I liked how the purse turned out so I think I will try to make other small purses as well.
