1  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / Solder-less Glass Slide Pendants on: February 07, 2012 08:38:25 AM
I had a couple of cool ideas for pendants, so I picked up some glass slides over the weekend and set to work.  And then I ran into a small problem.  I need a way to pretty up the edges and add a bail.  I know this is usually done with foil tape and soldering, but I've never soldered anything before.  And I like to use things I already have on hand if I can.  So I was wondering if I could use polymer clay.  I'm sure the glass would be fine, but I plan to affix my images with gel medium, and I'm not sure what that would do in the oven...  Undecided

So.  Any ideas or suggestions would be much appreciated.  Thanks, in advance!
2  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Discussion and Questions / Re: Tour de fleece 2012 on: February 06, 2012 10:37:38 AM
That sounds like fun!  I may have to join in, assuming I've developed any proficiency by then.  I'm completely new to spinning.  Currently working on getting my hands on a drop spindle.

What a cool technique!  I love this!

How lovely!  I totally understand that fear.  I'm just as bad about regular, lined notebooks as I am about sketchbooks.  I love buying them, but I feel like they need to have a distinct and worthy purpose before I start writing in them.  Cheers, indeed!  Smiley

Thanks, everyone!  This was such a fun technique.  I'll definitely be doing more.  Smiley

Asheri - LOL!  She does look a bit like Ursula.  Maybe I was subconsciously inspired.  Tongue
6  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Re: Labour costs? on: January 31, 2012 01:34:28 PM
Imagine someone was hiring you to work in a teddy bear factory.  What would you expect them to pay you?  At least minimum wage, for sure, and probably a good deal more.  You ARE highly skilled, after all.  And like jungrrl said, you want to make enough to stay motivated.  It sucks to be halfway through a project thinking you deserve more than what you charged.

Foxes!  OMG, I love these!  They are adorable, and I think you've done a lovely job.  Smiley

I love this!  Especially the... bubbles?  I'm going to call them bubbles.  Nice work!
9  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Altered Magazine Art - Engel der Nacht on: January 31, 2012 01:10:02 PM

This piece started life as a magazine page, which I adhered to a canvas with gel medium.  I then used a combination of gesso, acrylics, and colored pencil to alter the original image.  Very little of the original survives aside from the pose.

That is amazing!  Totally looks like the real thing!  The texture on the cake... I am in awe.  @__@
