Those are so great! I'm totally amazed that you were able to do the printing....that's something that totally escapes me. What a wonderful talent to have!
2  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Traditional cooking? on: November 30, 2011 07:33:39 AM
I've found myself a bit short on money, and I got the idea that back in the day, people didn't have a lot of money either so a lot of more traditional food (not gourmet) using simple ingredients, might be my best bet. I don't eat processed food either, so I found it was easier to follow more traditional recipes when using whole food.
A few good ones I found are:
http://www.cottagesmallholder.com/superb-food-from-other-great-blogs-chef-at-large-sids-meat-and-oatmeal-stew-2021 (the oatmeal also adds extra protein!)
http://www.chow.com/recipes/28172-boxty-irish-potato-pancake (I also like to add things like onion or cheap meat to these)
http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Autumn-Root-Vegetable-Puree-231140 (adjusted for availability, on the side of whatever cheap roast I can get)
http://allrecipes.com/recipe/homemade-chicken-soup/ (made with leftovers of a chicken that I roasted and ate, rather than the whole chicken...if it's not enough I freeze it and make it when I have 2!)

I also make my own bouillon base with old roasts, so I don't have to use the cubes, which are often full of MSG and other nasty stuff!

Anyway, what kinds of cheap, traditional recipes do you make? Preferably using whole food. And country of origin is no object!

Nice. Can I ask how you get your paper beads to turn out so well? I've tried making them a few times and mine don't even look half that good!
