1  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / help, need ideas for gift for coworker! on: November 10, 2006 06:38:08 PM
I work in a paint your own pottery studio (also a bead your own jewelry studio) and every year we do a secret santa.  Our boss decided to add a twist to it this year, we have to MAKE the gifts, and nothing can be pottery or beaded.  Now, I have no problem with this at all, I've dabbled in a little bit of everything crafty, but I think it's pretty unfair to my coworkers since not everyone is crafty, infact I'm really the only one.  Anyway, this year I got my coworker Chris and while I love the kid, I have no clue what to make him.  He's 16 (the youngest of us all) and is pretty much the all around perfect highschool kid.  He's on the wrestling team, big into school spirit, on SGA, friends with everyone (it's a huge joke, that he knows at least 5 people in any establishment at any given time in the town), he is never without a date for any function, and he's smart and takes advanced classes.  He's the kid you love to hate, but still the sweetest and nicest 16 year old boy I have ever known.  What the hell am I supposed to make him?
The only things I can think of are either pj pants (cause they're easy to make) or an ipod cozy in his school colors.  I just think thats too generic.  I'm usually really good at thinking up gifts for anyone I don't actually know.  Hopefully there is someone out there with this same talent who can help me think of something . . .
2  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Completed Projects / lucite and pearl knotting (lots of pics) on: February 07, 2006 01:36:00 PM
my new favorite thing is lucite beads, so i recently bought a box full and went crazy.  they're simple but i didn't really want to put them with other beads that would detract from their cool factor so i decided just to pearl knot them, (my other current obsession now that i've had enough practice to make decent things).  so here are some pics:

the above is not actually the same as below even though they look like it.  top is "moonglow", bottom isn't.

opps, resized one too many times

all the necklaces have 2 matching bracelets but i figured that i have enough pics in here already.

thanks for looking!

3  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / metal disk earrings (my first project post!) on: February 01, 2006 08:12:41 AM
For christmas a friend gave me a little metal punch tool and a bunch of metal disks in different colors.  I love this stuff now!  I made a bunch of earrings and every time i wear them someone asks me to make them a pair.  I've totally run out of the aqua color, they're really popular.

the metal punch thing is awesome too.  i went to hawaii for xmas and made a bunch of those flattened pennys.  i  punched holes in them and plan on making them into earrings once i get some gold chain.
anyway, thanks for looking!
